President's Message

Aloha Chamber members:

On behalf of the Chamber 'Ohana, have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving. We are truly grateful for your investment in the Chamber and are here to serve you. I would like to recognize our team for their hard work and dedication, as well as our Board of Directors for their wonderful support. Our team also welcomes aboard the newest member of our organization, Ellen Ostler, Executive Assistant and Corporate Secretary.

Additionally, please join us in showing appreciation to our men and women who defend our country and provide the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedom. Please visit the Chamber's Military Affairs Council's keephawaiisheroes.org site and sign the petition to show your support for military in Hawaii.

Finally, we encourage you to recognize the heartbeat of our economic engine, our local small businesses. We all know someone who has invested their heart and soul into their own labor of love. So, please shop at a local, small business on "Small Business Saturday," the first Saturday after Thanksgiving, designated nationally to encourage support of small businesses. These hard-working business owners deserve our patronage.

Laulima & mahalo,

Sherry Menor-McNamara

President & CEO

Recruiting Opportunity for Skilled Employees

The Chamber is supporting the Holiday Tech Fair on December 29, whose mission is to showcase Hawaii's innovative, high growth companies in tech, software, web development, medical and manufacturing industries. The fair raises awareness about employment opportunities with local companies for kamaaina who are home during the holiday break and may be looking for opportunities to move back, as well as to the talented workforce here in Hawaii.

Chamber members have an opportunity to exhibit at a discounted rate of $200, a savings of $175. We are seeking innovative companies that are looking to hire tech talent, as well as medical techs, doctors, project managers, analysts and manufacturing talent.

For more information, please visit the HTDC website.

Thankful for Service Men and Women

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, we are thankful for the men and women who serve our country in our military. As PACOM Deputy Commander Lt. General Anthony Crutchfield reminded us at our MAC Quarterly Briefing last week, the military is about more than the ships, planes and boots on the ground. While these are visible reminders of the military's presence, our military is really about using political, economic, diplomatic and military power to provide peace and security. The "pivot to the Pacific" is a long term strategy. It has resulted in $8.7 billion in resources being dedicated to the Pacific Region through Pacific Command. At the same time, the drawdown of the military forces is also real. This will impact all services, including the Reserves and Guard.

UH President David Lassner shared that partnering with the military is an important part of the UH strategy. The military is an important employer, including the Innovation Initiative that is focused on building a third leg for our economy.

Show Hawaii's military your appreciation by joining the more than 2,500 people who have signed the "Keep Hawaii's Heroes” petition online or on paper!
