President's Message

Aloha Chamber Members:

In an earlier message, I indicated that the Chamber will be more proactive with initiatives that promote Hawaii as a global hub and as a place to invest, do business and hold meetings, by increasing our outreach to fellow chambers, business organizations and other stakeholders around the world, especially within Asia Pacific.

To that end, we have formed an unprecedented partnership with Meet Hawai`i, a collaboration between the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau, and the Hawaii Convention Center responsible for attracting offshore conventions to the state. The marketing efforts of Meet Hawai`i are overseen by the Hawai`i Tourism Authority. Click here to read how you can get involved in this effort.

Also, this July, we are taking “Hawaii to the Hill.” Each state is afforded an opportunity to showcase its products and services to lawmakers on Capitol Hill throughout the year. We have been invited by Senator Mazie Hirono to take the lead on this initiative and bring Hawaii’s specialties to Washington D.C. In addition to promotional opportunities, we will also be coordinating advocacy meetings and events around Hawaii’s industries. Please stay tuned for information on how you can be a part of this effort.

Finally, congratulations to Chamber members who received Hawaii Business magazine's, “Best Places to Work” awards. We are proud to have you as a member.

Laulima & mahalo,

Sherry Menor-McNamara
President & CEO

MAC Aims to Protect State from Collapse of Defense Industry

A community-wide effort is planned to protect Hawaii’s $14.8 billion defense industry and the more than 100,000 jobs that are enabled by defense spending and report annual household incomes totaling $8.6 billion.

The Chamber’s Military Affairs Council has contracted Jennifer Sabas, former chief of staff for Senator Inouye, to reorganize the MAC into a statewide membership organization that supports the military’s prominent presence in Hawaii. We’ve already gained more than 30 businesses and labor organizations and 20 individual supporters. Those interested in protecting Hawaii’s economy and workforce are encouraged to email Jennifer or Rona Suzuki.
