While Boris Johnson narrowly survived a vote of confidence this month, turmoil over his leadership continues to distract from the real issues facing the country as the cost-of-living crisis deepens. I've been raising these and other issues. As ever, I'd welcome your feedback and do get in touch if I can be of any help.
NHS Dentistry

After lots of constituents contacted me about huge difficulties getting an NHS dentist, I met with the Local Dental Committee and argued in Parliament for government action to save NHS dentistry (more here).
Carers Week

During Carers Week I made a pledge to press for unpaid carers to be recognised and supported - and heard their experiences at an event (top picture) hosted by Carers UK.

Traffic noise

I worked with Walkley's newly elected Councillor Tom Hunt and local police to nominate a road in Upperthorpe for a Department for Transport pilot to trial an innovative new noise camera to stop nuisance vehicles.

CAFOD

I met with local CAFOD supporters to talk about the importance of climate action as part of their work for global justice.

Free Trade Agreements

I participated in a UK Trade and Business Commission session taking evidence on Free Trade

Free school breakfasts

I met with Magic Breakfast to discuss their work in providing free breakfasts to school children at risk of hunger, including in three schools in our constituency.

Alternatives to SATs

I met with More than a Score on their campaign to replace SATs, on which I also asked Ministers earlier this month.

Journalism students

I was pleased to have a Q&A with University of Sheffield journalism students during a visit to Westminster. If you'd like to visit Parliament do get in touch.

Rail strike

After talks broke down, I pressed the Transport Secretary to work with employers to secure a settlement which offers rail workers a fair play settlement and no compulsory redundancies from changing work practices.

Hong Kong students

I signed a cross-party letter in the Times calling for British National (Overseas) visa holders from Hong Kong to be given 'home student' status for university, like refugees from Afghanistan and Ukraine.

Cladding and Building Safety

I arranged a meeting between Wicker Riverside leaseholders and Building Safety Minister Lord Greenhalgh on funding problems in the remediation of their building - and spoke on Radio Sheffield on the 5th anniversary of the Grenfell disaster

Climate Action

I challenged BEIS Ministers on Government failures on home energy efficiency. and pushed for a serious retro-insulation plan to cut carbon emissions, fuel bills, and gas imports.

Gambling addiction

In a Westminster Hall debate, I made the case for a Statutory Gambling Levy to fund prevention and treatment for gambling addiction and separately argued for the problem to be recognised in the national suicide strategy.

Ukrainian refugees

I met with Refugees Minister Richard Harrington to press on problems constituents had been facing with the Homes for Ukraine scheme.

Jewish Leadership Council

I met with the Chair of the Union of Jewish Students and others at a Jewish Leadership Council event in Parliament.

Nether Edge Active Travel

I have been working with newly elected Councillor Nighat Basharat to secure public meetings for residents with the Council - and hope dates will be confirmed soon.
