After a week's break in which we had local elections, a new Parliamentary session started two weeks ago with the Queen's Speech. I've challenged Ministers on issues from the cost of living crisis to local bus investment this month - and was pleased to meet Somaliland's Foreign Minister (above). As ever, I'd welcome your feedback.
Cost of living crisis

I joined Manor and Castle Action Group to discuss the impact of the cost of living crisis and took the issues to Parliament - calling for an emergency budget restoring the universal credit uplift and a windfall tax to cap energy bills. More here.

Northern Ireland Protocol

I challenged Liz Truss on her statement on the Northern Ireland Protocol which I believe is designed to fuel Brexit divisions. Watch our exchange here.

Health and Safety at work

I spoke at an International Workers Memorial Day rally, backing the International Labour Organisation call to make occupational health and safety a fundamental right at work. More here.
Nether Edge Primary School

I was pleased to visit Nether Edge Primary School and be quizzed by pupils on a huge range of topics. Do get in touch if you'd like me to visit your school.

Nationality and Borders Bill

When the Nationality and Borders Bill returned to the Commons I challenged Ministers on the lack of safe and legal routes (more here) and condemned the Rwanda plans in Politics Home (read here).

Improving our buses

I spoke in a Westminster Hall debate on public transport in South Yorkshire recalling the bus system destroyed by Margaret Thatcher and calling for proper investment in services. Read my comments here.

Jamaica deportations

I questioned Home Office Minister Tom Pursglove on the deportation of people who have come to the UK as young children, an issue on which I've previously tried to change the law. More here.

As Chair of the APPG for Students, I met with the Union of Jewish Students to discuss their concerns over antisemitism on campuses and in the student movement.

Council Elections

I met with newly elected Labour councillors Tom Hunt (Walkley) and Nighat Basharat (Nether Edge and Sharrow) on working together on local issues.

Somaliland Independence Day

I met with the Foreign Minister of Somaliland Dr Essa Keyd after a reception to mark Somaliland Independence Day. We discussed the next steps on recognition of his country - on which I have spoken. (See here).

HMS Sheffield

I joined a service of remembrance to mark the 40th anniversary of the loss of HMS Sheffield during the Falklands conflict.

Passport delays

Several constituents have been in touch about the huge delay with passport applications. My team have been following these up individually - so do get in touch if you need help.

International Students

I was re-elected Co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for International Students, sharing the job with CBI President Lord Bilimoria.

Big Plastic Count

I took part in the Big Plastic Count last week and am backing the campaign to set targets to massively reduce the amount of single-use plastic in the UK.

My team have been supporting Ukrainian refugees seeking visas to live in Sheffield in the face of big Home Office delays. More on how to support Ukraine here.
