Vaccine Requirement
As you might have heard, LAUSD is leading the way, taking bold steps to ensure our school families are safe.  Here’s our formula:

We have received important recognition for taking bold steps.

And now, California steps out boldly as well!

Our Student Board Member reminds us why vaccinations are so important.

Understandably, bold decisions often result in concern and criticism.  So it’s important to share information that reminds us we are on the right path.

And receiving this recognition is important.

Visiting Schools

Thank you to Principal Gaines and the Cleveland Early Education and Infant Center for the warm welcome last week! I had a fantastic time visiting your school site community. Cleveland EEC (located in Reseda) is preparing students 2-5 years of age for kindergarten by providing them with a quality, age-appropriate, child-centered learning experience!

Tuesday was a jam packed day! I started my morning at Colfax Elementary, where I got to explore their new buildings and classroom additions. At the farm, Ms. Garcia introduced me to Honey, Colfax's piglet, who to my amazement, also dabbles in piano! I was then off to North Hollywood High School, where was I greeted by Principal Rosales and Mr. Chavez, who updated me on NoHo's comprehensive modernization project as we toured the campus. I then headed to Amelia Earhart High School to meet new principal, Mr. Saravia.

Student Advisory Council

My Student Advisory Council is officially back for a 5th year! We held our first (in-person!) meeting of the school year earlier this week. Our student leaders were joined by LAUSD Redistricting Commission's Dr. Loraine Lundquist and Ms. Genesis Coronado to learn more about the redistricting process and review the Commission's draft maps. They certainly had a lot to share!

LAUSD Students Corner

Valley Changemakers, a group of LAUSD students representing six high schools, is the 2020-2021 Jefferson Awards Students in Action National Gold Team winner. The high schools represented include Van Nuys High School, Granada Charter High School, Northridge Academy, Cleveland High School, Taft High School, and SOCES.

Valley Changemakers has come together this year to direct their efforts to the UN Global Goal-Life on Land. As a response to the ever increasing wildfires in California, they are hosting several projects that include adopting part of Sepulveda Basin that was burned and partnering with organizations whose goals coincide with ours. You can see their work here.

Each day let us all work towards protecting our environment. Through our collective efforts we can provide an impact towards reaching our goals.
