"I'm going to put my story in the spring," she thought. "That's what's so nice about writing. You can go into any season you want to." She thought about the apple orchard behind the Hill Street house, and saw blossoms swaying against a vivid sky. Then she wrote her opening sentence. "Under a tree hung with rosy apple blossoms, an infant boy was sleeping."

Announcing BTS Website Contest Winners
We launched our newly designed website in January with a hidden trivia question. The hidden question was "What was the decoration on the top of Betsy and Joe's wedding cake?" Answer: A dove
The first 5 people to provide the correct answer are: Marnie Herzfeld, Anne Rickert, Emily Gold, Elaine Lilly, and Mary Costello.
A drawing from the names of all who correctly answered the trivia question was held in March. The winner of this drawing is Anne Rickert.

Maud Hixson Concert & Program
Sunday, April 30, 2017 @ 2:00 pm
St. John's Episcopal Church
302 Warren Street in Mankato, MN
To honor the 125th birthday of Maud Hart Lovelace, the Betsy-Tacy Society has partnered with St. John's Episcopal Church in Mankato to present "Listening For Your Song: A Musical Companion to the Betsy-Tacy books by Maud Hart Lovelace" with Maud Hixson & Rick Carlson and special appearance by Maria Jette. Tickets are $15. Advance tickets encouraged as seating is limited.
Popular vocalist Maud Hixson, accompanied by her husband Rick Carlson on the piano, will perform a selection of songs from her CD, Listening For Your Song: A musical companion to the Betsy-Tacy books by Maud Hart Lovelace. This CD is a collection of songs from the 1890s through WWI that were referred to in Maud Hart Lovelace's series of books about growing up in Mankato at the turn of the century. Hear familiar favorites like "Alexander's Ragtime Band" and "In The Good Old Summertime" as well as some lesser-known gems from the era of parlor music.
Fans of the Betsy-Tacy books will recognize St. John’s Episcopal Church from the Betsy-Tacy books. Characters Julia and Betsy join the Episcopal Church to sing in the choir.
"Bettina," she [Julia] said. "I love the Episcopal Church.
I want to be an Episcopalian."
Quote from Heaven to Betsy
Special guest soprano Maria Jette will join Hixson in singing Rossini’s “Cat Duet”. Betsy-Tacy fans will recognize the "Cat Duet" as Betsy and Tacy performed it at the school program dressed in cat costumes. Jette will also sing "The Merry Widow Waltz" and several church hymns from the era.
This concert and program is a fundraiser for the Betsy-Tacy Society.
Join us for this special celebration!
Each month features a collectible historic photograph from Deep Valley with quotes from the Betsy-Tacy books. Full color calendar. Every purchase from the gift shop benefits the BTS.
