FROM THE COUNCIL PRESIDENT
Moving Forward . . .

I am writing from Chicago where it’s summertime, and our boating season seems like it is finally back to normal. Regattas, cruises, sailing school and social events are fully back up and running despite the lingering presence of “the virus.”

The ICOYC is getting back to normal as well. In the past twelve months we held two very successful regional conferences—the European Regional Conference in Barcelona last October and the North American Regional Conference in New Orleans last March. I attended both conferences and besides being extremely well run, they were also extremely well attended. People seemed eager to reengage with our friends from fellow member clubs and soak in the knowledge that is the trademark of our conferences.
With that in mind, your Board of Directors is busy planning future conferences and forums. Our goal is to schedule them for the next two years so that Clubs can plan, and Members can put the events in their calendars. So far, we have locked in the next World Forum for September 18-23, 2023, hosted by the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. I think this is a great symbol of our “new beginning” after COVID since the very first world forum was held at the Royal Van in 2005. Please mark your calendars for this exciting event.

Following the World Forum is the ICOYC Cruise of the Chesapeake from September 29, 2023, to October 6, 2023, hosted by the Annapolis Yacht Club. The Chesapeake is an amazing and historic cruising ground and Annapolis Yacht Club has put together a first-class schedule of events kicking off with a tour of the United States Naval Academy. There is a limit on the number of participants, so please sign up early to hold your place. I also anticipate a European Conference will occur in March/April 2023. This is still in the early phases but I hope to have more specifics to announce the next time I write.

I am thrilled to report that we have a new member club, the St. Petersburg Yacht Club from the west coast of Florida, USA. St. Petersburg Yacht Club has been part of the sailing community for more than 100 years. I have personally raced at the club and experienced their outstanding regatta organization and warm hospitality. They are a great addition to our membership, and I look forward to working with them.

The ICOYC is moving forward. We are planning regional conferences, World Forums, cruises, and other great events to foster our connections. I truly look forward to greeting you in person at these events. It is time to get back together.
Respectfully,

Leif Sigmond
ICOYC President

Norddeutscher Regatta Verein Wins World Championship at Sailing Champions League Finals

The idea behind Sailing Champions League is simple: it’s the championship of the national champions, during which the most successful clubs of the National Sailing League countries compete against each other to fight for the title of “Best Sailing Club of the Year.” It’s a straightforward format that has worked well in football for years, and now we have clear proof that it also works for sailing!
