Celebrate National Gardening Month: April 1-30, 2021

April is National Gardening Month and while most of us are following advice to stay home, gardening at least gets us out in the fresh air and gives us something fun to do. Gardening is good exercise that promotes heart health and helps with weight control. It can reduce the risk of stroke by lowering blood pressure and has been shown to delay the onset of dementia. Gardens don’t have to be large, so even if you live in the city with a sliver of a yard, you can still grow your own. So, if you haven’t already begun looking at planting this year’s garden it’s time to start digging in the dirt. Gardens can be anywhere and anyone can garden!
While you’re in the planting mood, National Arbor Day is Friday, April 30. Plant a tree, care for a tree or have a picnic under your favorite tree.
Check out the Arbor Day Foundation for ideas on how you and your community can celebrate.
