WAKATOBI DECLARATION OF LOCAL GOVERNMENTS ON A NEW URBAN AGENDA

We, more than 100 representatives of cities and local governments of Asia Pacific, international organizations and local government associations, participating at the Asia Pacific Conference on “Local Government Voices towards Habitat III on a New Urban Agenda” have gathered from 5 to 7 September 2015 in the Regency of Wakatobi, Indonesia.

EXECUTIVE BUREAU AND COUNCIL MEETINGS IN WAKATOBI

THE 2015 Executive Bureau and Council Meetings were held in conjunction with the Conference on “Local Government Voices Towards Habitat III on a New Urban Agenda” in Wakatobi on 6-7 September 2015. Commenced first on 5 September with the Conference, mayors, district chiefs, and other representatives from around Asia-Pacific were present on these meetings,  including the host Mayor Hugua, UCLG ASPAC President and Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Mr. Won Hee-Ryong, and not to mention UCLG ASPAC Secretary General Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi.

KNOWLEDGE CENTER FOR BEST PRACTICES: TAKING ONE STEP FURTHER

The creation of the Knowledge Centre for smart practices in Indonesia is making progress following its third workshop. The workshop, titled “Development of Criteria & Indicator Readiness of the Smart Practices”, brought together a collaborative group of parties to advance the replication plan of two smart practices in the country.

WEGO AND UCLG ASPAC INKED COOPERATION TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE URBAN DEVELOPMENT

A cooperation agenda is inked between The World e-Governments Organization of Cities and Local Governments or popularly known as WeGo and UCLG ASPAC. Both parties have agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to share a common agenda to promote sustainable urban development.WeGo and UCLG ASPAC agreed to explore  collaboration in a wide range of programs, projects, and activities that are determined to be feasible and consistent with the guiding principles and organizational needs of both parties.

SECRETARY GENERAL SPOKE AT THE HABITAT DAY’S CELEBRATION IN INDONESIA

THE Secretary General was invited by the Ministry of Public Works of the Republic of Indonesia to speak at the World Habitat Day’s Celebration under the theme of “Public Spaces for All” held in Denpasar on 9 October 2015 and also in Lampung on 5-6 November 2015.

EST. IN SEOUL, LOCAL GOVERNMENT TRANSPORT OFFICER FORUM TO ADDRESS CHALLENGES OF TRANSPORTATION IN URBAN AREAS

Nothing is more exciting from a workshop and training session in Seoul rather than establishing Local Government Transport Officer Forum, a new platform for Indonesian officials at the national and regional level to address escalating challenges of transportation in urban areas. The move was officially established in the capital city of Seoul, Republic of Korea, in the end of 10-long day training for scores of Indonesian government officials hosted by Seoul Metropolitan City Government.

STEPPING UP CLIMATE RESILIENCY PROGRAM TO CATBALOGAN CITY FARMERS

THE challenges of climate change is at every sphere of our daily life now,” Mayor Stephany Uy- Tan of Catbalogan City told a 200 delegates of the Regional Climate Forum where she was the guest speaker. Known to be a staunch climate change resiliency advocate, Mayor Step as she is fondly called, said that just as important with the issues of transportation and energy, the agriculture sector should also be given proper attention in various forums.

SURAKARTA CITY FOCUSING ON HEALTH, EDUCATION AND HOUSING SERVICE
URAKARTA City is implementing a program called Surakarta Society’s Heath Service or locally known as PKMS. This program started in 2008, focusing on marginalized people without health insurance. There are two PKMS packages, the Gold and the Silver. The first is for people declared as ”poor”. All their financial expenses for health service are fully covered by the city government.   The second package aims to deliver a financial aid worth IDR 2 million to particular patients.

MELODY ZHANG YISHUHAN: A MARVELOUS TRIP TO WAKATOBI

DURING my internship at UCLG ASPAC from 27 July to 13 September 2015, I really felt to be honored to be cordially invited to participate to the 2015 UCLG ASPAC Executive Bureau, Council Meetings and the Asia-Pacific Conference on “Local Government Voice toward HABITAT III on a New Urban Agenda” in Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. Not only did I gain valuable experience in supporting the international events, but I also deepened my realization in global urban issues.
