Guangzhou Award Winners Announced and Launch of OBOR Magazine

 


IT was the third cycle of urban innovation award held in Guangzhou and 5 cities spread in 5 continents turned out to be winner of this worldwide award, Guangzhou Urban Innovation Award: Songpa-gu (South Korea), Qalyubeya Governorate (Egypt), Boston (USA), Copenhagen (Denmark), and La Paz (Bolivia). LOCAL Economic Development (LED) is one of highlights in achieving sustainable development goals. While in Millennium Development Goals LED didn’t show progress as evenly as other sectors, it nestles as Goal 8 in the pursuance of new development concept. Click for more info.

SANITATION MANAGEMENT

Probolinggo City Triggering Solution

 
 

 

ONE of sustainable development goals for the city to pursue is ensuring sustainable management of sanitation. With different surroundings, environment, and culture, cities across Asia-Pacific surely face unique challenges and thus also require specific solution, which might come from local initiative or replication of other’s smart practice. For the latter one, sanitation management of Probolinggo City is worth note taking. Lingering on East Java province, Indonesia, Probolinggo City is inhabited by around 216,967 population. Considering its location lying within the path leading to Mount Bromo, one of popular tourism destinations in that area, visitors usually drop in the city before continuing their travel. With that potential, not all knows that Probolinggo City has been facing sanitation problem. Read more.

Renewed Commitment for Open Partnership




 
WELCOMING end of 2016, leaders from cities around the world gathered in Paris, France, on 7-9 December 2016 in Open Government Partnership Global Summit, a forum that brings together state visionaries from all over the world. Attending the forum, UCLG ASPAC was represented by Mayor Allan Rellon of Tagum City and Executive Vice President of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP). This forum covered open government and partnership issues regarding transparency and anti-corruption issue, climate change and sustainable development and implementation of open government at the sub-national level, as well as open parliament. At the end of the event, Paris Declaration was declared, mentioning that this event was a renewed commitment after adoption of New Urban Agenda.  Click for more info.

New Personnel in the Team

 
UCLG ASPAC Secretariat is pleased to welcome new personnel, Ashep Ramdhan as Information and Communication Officer. Holding Master degree on Political Communication, Ashep has had 12 years of working experience in various development related organizations, making him exposed to many development areas: governance, administrative reform, decentralization, access to justice, election, political representation, anti-­‐corruption, institutional capacity building and community development. He took the opportunity to build his network in state and non-­‐state organizations, including the Indonesian Vice President’s office, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of State Apparatus and Administrative Reform, National Development Planning Agency, National Election Commission, Indonesian Parliament, state universities, local governments, and key civil society organizations in Indonesia. IN almost two years of secondment period, Young-Gyu Kang, we usually called him David, a secondee from Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG), entered his last day in UCLG ASPAC Secretariat Office on 24 December 2016. During his secondment period, David managed to set cooperation on activities between UCLG ASPAC and SMG to benefit members, particularly in the field of sustainable mobility.
