A Newly Elected President of UCLG ASPAC and His Message

It is a pleasure for me to write to you for the first time as the President of UCLG ASPAC.
I was elected during the Congress that marked the 10th Anniversary of UCLG ASPAC. It was a nice occasion to meet members from all around Asia-Pacific, as well as celebrate all together the accomplishments of the past ten years. There is so much potential in Asia-Pacific.

         Secretary General's Mission
September and October 2014 have been the busy months for the Secretary General of UCLG ASPAC, Dr. Bernadia I. Tjandradewi. She has been invited by partners and members to participate in various conferences and forums. She has used those occasions to meet members and partners, hear their feedback, and at the same time promote UCLG ASPAC to potential partners.

   High Level Symposium: Promoting
    Regional Cooperation and Local
  Economic Development (South Asia)

Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) organized a consultative meeting on 29 and 30 September 2014 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It gathered Ministers, Senior Ministry Officials/Secretaries, Local Government Associations’ Presidents and Secretary Generals, as well as UNDP representatives, other regional partners of the Commonwealth and high level decision-makers responsible for local government in South Asia. The meeting aimed to share and exchange good practices on decentralization and Local Economic Development (LED) and to identify common regional priorities in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region.

Taipei City Government: Citizens Choice Award at the City Climate Leadership Awards.

The Taipei City Government won the Citizen's Choice Award for its “Clean Air — It's Your Move” initiative at the C40 and Siemens City Climate Leadership Awards ceremony in New York on September 22
The award was announced at the C40 and Siemens City Climate Leadership Awards ceremony and recognized Taipei for its “Clean Air—It’s Your Move” initiative.

WeGO, the World e-Governments Organization of Cities and Local Governments, will hold its 3rd General Assembly, themed “Engaging Citizens: Open, Sharing, and Collaborative Cities”, from 3-6 November, 2014 in Chengdu, China. The event brings together city decision-makers, including Mayors and Chief Information Officers (CIO), international organizations, research institutes and IT companies. Over 70 cities and 30 Mayors/Vice Mayors have already registered for the event..

Global Mayors Show Unity & Ambition to Tackle Climate Change
 

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and UN Special Envoy for Cities and Climate Change Michael R. Bloomberg announced the launch of a global Compact of Mayors, the world’s largest effort for cities to fight climate change.
The Compact will enable cities to publically commit to deep GHG emissions reductions; make existing targets and plans; and report on their progress annually, using a newly-standardized measurement system that is compatible with international practices.

Strengthening Cooperation with Jakarta Capital City Government and UCLG ASPAC with  Concrete Programs
In response to the proposed program on "the Development of Creative Economy Zero Waste System“ submitted by UCLG ASPAC to Jakarta Capital City Government, the UCLG ASPAC Secretary General Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi met the Deputy Governor for Industry, Trade and Transportation of Jakarta Capital City Government Mr. Sutanto Soehodho and related departments on 7thOctober to further discuss about the proposed activities.
