It’s no secret that Switzerland consistently ranks one of the best places in the world to live and with the Alps on our doorstep, our members have been taking advantage of the snowy peaks. In addition to the downhill and cross-country ski activities, some members have requested a shorter day ski or snowshoe outing at nearby resorts. If you are interested in organising either a morning or afternoon trip, then please let us know or post your outing details on our Facebook page for other members to sign up and join.
All our January activities were well attended. It’s great to be able to get together again after surviving the Longest Day and Blue Monday to participate in the diverse range of activities that our club has to offer.
Our first board meeting of 2022 took place last month and high on the agenda we discussed the Board positions that will come to an end this year. As you are aware all positions on the Executive Committee and Team Chairs are for the duration of two years. We are therefore now looking for nominees to take the roles of Vice President, Secretary, and Events Co-Ordinator. If you are interested in any of these roles or would like to suggest another member (with their approval) please contact email@example.com.
It is vitally important to fill all these roles and therefore make the handover as seamless as possible.
Welcome to our new members Sylvie Battaglia, Marie-Christine Nibagwire, and Elaine Greensmith. We trust you will enjoy making new friendships and joining the varied activities we have to offer.
We are delighted that the February monthly meeting “Face Yoga” has now been confirmed to take place on Friday 4th February 2022 at the clubhouse and on zoom. It certainly sounds like a fun activity!

If you wish to purchase the wonderful non-seasonal greeting cards, showcasing our members' photography they can be purchased for CHF 20 per pack. Available in the IWC Clubhouse office and library.

A New Exciting Upcoming IWC Event in the Spring of 2022.
IWC has invited Mr. Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, ex-CEO of the Nestle Group here in Vevey to have a conference about his new book “Ascensions” in the Spring. “I suffered, I strived to survive, I now thrive and live to make a difference in my generation and for the next generations”.(by Marie-Christine Nibagwire, a survivor of the Rwandan genocide of 1994, now Refugee Advocate, a trauma counselor, a peace ambassador, a church of England Minister, and a qualified trainer of the British Etiquette).
You may have heard, read, or watched on the news, about a shocking and perplexing event called “The Rwandan Genocide”, which was witnessed by the world between April and July 1994. I survived that tragedy and have made my new life in Europe (Britain and Switzerland) since 1998.
My experience of suffering as a woman and as a mother, has made me realise the strength in a woman, her resilience, and her power and passion to lift up others who may be suffering what she has suffered from.
I am joining the IWC to learn from other women but also to offer the good of what I have learned or experienced. I believe I have helped other women in the previous clubs I was in. As a trauma counselor and a resilience expert, I like to offer, free of charge, my services to women who are in my circle. I believe that once a woman has peace and security in her heart, she will impart it to her children or her surrounding, therefore influencing society, then nations.
I look forward to having fellowship with you all and to sharing my testimonies with you.
My name is Elaine Greensmith and I’m delighted to become a new member of IWC. My family and I moved to La Tour de Peilz in August and our two teenage boys attend ISL.
We are an Irish family, having left Ireland for my husband’s work assignment in Singapore in 2012 and we have since lived in South Africa, Hannover, Germany, and most recently Eindhoven, The Netherlands. Our boys are certainly getting to see the world! Before kids, we were lucky to get to live in Italy in two beautiful cities Pavia and Florence. Our eldest son was born in Singapore. We are truly blessed to have had the opportunity to experience so many cultures.
I was an active member of The International Women’s Club, Eindhoven where I was an area representative for the city centre. I really enjoyed my time as a member and have fond memories of the lovely ladies and the times we shared.
I’m a nurse/ midwife having taken roles as a school nurse snd community nurse over the years. At the moment I’m enjoying learning French and enjoying the beautiful Swiss environment. I love outdoor activities especially enjoy running, walking, hiking and Pilates. I’m hoping my skiing will improve!! I hope to join one of the reading groups and look forward to a lunch or a wine evening with some of you.
I’m looking forward to meeting some of you soon.
I am a multilingual law graduate girl, who followed her fiancé to Lausanne, from Lugano, Switzerland. I love cooking and hosting friends at home. I am a lover of spiritual arts along with yoga and meditation and I have a deep appreciation for every art form. Moreover, I am passionate about learning languages and immersing myself in others cultures. As a dynamic girl, I also enjoy jogging in nature.

Your ideas for recruiting new members
The IWC membership has fluctuated over the years. For the 2020/2021 club year, we finished the year with 248 members. A total of 33 members are not renewing for 2021-2022. Our membership is currently back up to 230. We would like to recruit some more members and we would love to hear from you with your ideas as to how best to achieve this goal. Many of you will have worked in other associations and may have some good ideas to put forward. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org

IWC LIBRARY NEWS!!
For the club year 2021-2022, our librarian Leng will be delighted to welcome you either at a mutually convenient time (to be fixed via our email address), or the traditional first Wednesday of the month at 2-4 pm (kindly confirm beforehand)
Leng is looking for an IWC member interested in books about different topics to be a co-librarian.
Some Guidance on Book Donations
Thanks to the generous book donations of members past and present our library can now boast an enthralling collection of books, with themes ranging from the classics to the romantic, historical, crime/thriller, sci-fi.
Not least, you can find Latin American and contemporary Asian authors waiting to bring you on interesting literary journeys, all nestling on our shelves.
However, as for the shelves, whatever enticing subjects they may contain, they are not extensible. This is why I would like to inform club members that we can only accept, from now on, paperbacks and not hardcover volumes, such as reference books, self-help volumes, biographies on subjects not especially currently relevant.

Our CROSS-COUNTRY SKI GROUP will meet on the 3rd and 20th of February!
We had two fun outings in January, exploring different loops at Marchairuz. For February, I am planning outings to Mollendruz and Les Mosses (both TBC based on snow conditions).
If you are interested in joining us, email me (Bettina Y) so I can add you to our email list. Anyone - classic or skating technique - is welcome; we have a wide range of skill levels from complete beginners to advanced intermediate skiers.

Group members watch out for a WhatsApp message before 10.00 each Monday morning. Normally we meet at 14.00 If there is no official walk on a particular day members can always use WhatsApp to contact each other and arrange their own walk and meeting point. Have fun!
Potential new members should contact us by clicking on the button below.
