Greetings Ladies,

Last month we hosted our AGM at the Clubhouse followed by a superb presentation by our guest speakers Rosemonde Rossel and Berta Staedler, who represent our chosen charity:  Fondation MalleyPrairie.

Berta described to us, in some detail, the services they offer supporting victims of domestic violence. Rosemonde talked about their plans for the new garden space at their Welcome Centre. We came away from their presentation inspired to raise money and support them for their essential work. Thank you to all our members who attended in person and by Zoom.

October’s weather was delightful and our Activity Groups have been benefiting from sunshine and blue skies. The hiking and walking groups have been posting the most amazing photos with stunning backgrounds of lakes and mountains, although a hint of snowfall on the mountain peaks reminds us that we will soon be saying goodbye to our glorious autumnal colours to make way for the snowy winter season.
Our monthly meetings got off to a good start with the Charity presentation and Lidy Lakerveld has some
interesting guest speakers ahead for us all to enjoy.

Join us at the Clubhouse on Wednesday 10th November
to meet La Chocolatiere and again on Friday 10th December to participate in Face Yoga – who knew Face Yoga even existed! Look out for more details on signing up for both events.

The Wine Meet Up’s have started again and it was great to see new and existing members with their partners enjoying local wines in Lutry. Various topics of stimulating conversations were heard around the table. We are such an international crowd at the IWC with many great stories to tell, especially after a couple of glasses of good wine! Look out for more details of the November wine meet-up and the Christmas Wine tasting. Thanks to Mary Foley for organising the wine events.

We are pleased to announce that the IWC will be hosting our:

CLUBHOUSE CHRISTMAS FAIR on Friday 3rd December 2021.
10:30 – 3:00 pm

Please join us with your fellow members and friends for an exchange of Christmas cheer in the festive season.
We are delighted to offer you tea + coffee along with homemade cakes and cookies.
Come along to find an interesting offering of handmade gifts, Christmas decorations, and jewelry. Shari Ryder and Marion Schafer, who are our IWC Charity Team organisers, are planning a tempting charity table. Please support them in raising funds for Fondation MalleyPrarie.
More information on attending this event will be published in an upcoming email. Please look for it!

Welcome to our new members Fran Peronaci, Susan Cave, Jennifer Scanlon, Dominique Hess, Bettina Rickmers, and Amy Mahon. We look forward to welcoming you, together with other members that have recently joined at our:
New Members Coffee Morning on Tuesday 2nd November 2021 at our Clubhouse.

We wish to take this time to send our very best wishes for a speedy recovery to Angela Bishop, who is taking small steps on her way to making a full recovery after her tumble during the recent Free Spirits outing, and to Libbi Toscano who is recovering from a leg operation and has been recently spotted getting out and about on her knee scooter.

Finally, please don’t forget our request for volunteers at the recent AGM. Our club depends on volunteer help. We currently need members who can help with the advertising role, beginners French and German.
Enjoy the last of the Autumn colours!
Jennifer and Gill

Greetings Ladies!
It has come to our attention that a number of entries in our Club Directory need updating. This may well be the time for you to UPDATE your membership details.

That would be helpful and keep us on our toes.

New members, please come and meet each other and Board Members at the Clubhouse on Tuesday 2nd November between 10.00 and 12.00 for coffee and lots of home baking!

Please welcome more new members:
Shelly Winzeler

My name is Shelly Winzeler and we moved to Switzerland from the U.S. in December of 2020.  We moved from Arizona but had spent most of 2020 traveling throughout the western U.S. in our 5th wheel camper while my husband worked remotely.  We have lived in several different states as well as two prior ex-pat experiences.  We have three adult daughters who all reside in California and one spends part of the year in Greece.  My husband, myself, and our dog Jessie all reside in La Tour-de-Peilz.
I have lived a diverse life both culturally and professionally.  I have been a Special Education teacher, small business owner (I owned a wine and beer boutique in Northern California for 8 years), stay-at-home Mom, and school administrator.  Currently, I am not working but enjoying the benefits of living abroad and exploring creative endeavors.  Our prior ex-pat experiences took us to Southeast Asia and Israel.
I enjoy many outdoor activities as well as reading, photography, and writing.  I have spent a considerable amount of time walking and hiking with Jessie as we are familiarizing ourselves with our locale. It is so beautiful here and we are constantly finding new places to explore.  I am looking forward to meeting new friends through the IWC who share similar pursuits and interests.  I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to our adventure in Switzerland!

Susan Cave

For fifty years the only constant in Susan Cave's peripatetic life has been an old chalet in the village of Champery. She has lived and worked in various countries around the globe, spending the past decade in The Netherlands. She and her husband are New Zealanders who are looking forward to more leisure time at the foot of Les Dents du Midi. Her interests include antique textiles, particularly the American quilt.

Louise Gotsch

I'm an Australian, living in Pully. We arrived in Switzerland in April 2021 with our 2 chihuahuas and 2 cats. Prior to this relocation, we spent 2 years in Hong Kong and were in Singapore for 2 years before that. During our time in Asia, I spent my time volunteering with migrant workers and started studying for a Bachelor's degree online. I am now on the hunt for volunteering opportunities here in Lausanne and love to bake, shop (love a good vintage/second-hand find!), and a good coffee/wine!

Amy Mahon

Personal Bio
Hi! I’m Amy. I moved abroad from my home country of Canada in 2007, and since have had the privilege to live and work on 3 continents and 4 countries. France, China, the USA, and now beautiful Switzerland. Being Canadian, I am fluent in English and French, as I grew up near Montreal.
I have a Bachelors's degree in Psychology with a minor in Health Studies from Queen’s University in Canada. As I am always eager to learn more and stay up to date, in 2018 I completed a Certification in Digital Marketing from the University of Vermont, USA. During the past couple of years in Swiss, I completed my Master Reiki Certification and most recently completed my Swiss National and International Certification as a Hypnotherapist.  My focus and strength is helping women to feel empowered.
I have 2 wonderful daughters, Daniella and Sofia. I have been successful at balancing culture changes for them and raising them to be strong young women.
Philanthropy is important to me. I feel the need to serve society and volunteer when possible. In China, my passion to help others was fulfilled by serving on the executive board for an International organization, which financed the education of young Chinese girls from rural villages. I always try to volunteer when possible.
I enjoy being active, especially outdoors. I am an avid alpine skier; I enjoy running, mountain hikes, paddleboarding in Lake Leman, and any sort of social athletic outing. I also enjoy cooking and hosting others. I am very social and love to be busy!
I recently moved from Geneva to Lausanne, so I am looking forward to meeting new friends through IWC!

So come on ladies, please think which of your friends might like to join and get your name in the hat too!

Looking after your data

It is important for members to know that their data is safe.  Membership receives a copy of your application form when you join and this information is transferred into our Access database which in turn provides the information (in the old membership directory format) to the webmaster for updating the website.  As many of you will know we no longer print the membership directory and instead your details are to be found on the Member’s Only part of the IWC website and it is password controlled.  The password is changed every year and you will find it in your copy of the Guidebook.  It is possible for you to print the membership list from the website but please be aware that it is constantly changing and that, if you do print, you cannot just put an old version in the bin – it should be shredded or destroyed in some other way to protect everyone’s data.

As you know we also use your email address only in Mailchimp which delivers IWC communications e.g. the E-News and in VTX which provides our messaging service.
It is also important for members to know that we do not keep your records once you have left the Club.  During a period after each year end we check on all those who have not renewed. Very kindly some of you will have told us in advance if you are not renewing and it really helps us if you tell us why not.  If we have not already heard from you we need to make sure that this is not an oversight!   We will begin to delete you from our systems as soon as we know your status and if we hear nothing you will be automatically deleted after a few weeks.

As the weather is getting less predictable, please always make sure to check back the day before the ride - the route might change if the forecast predicts rain or particularly cold days. If you have questions, contact Bettina Younge by email at or by phone at 078 405 60 11.

Possible rides for November may include Romont to Vevey, or other lake-side and low-altitude options, such as Route 1, Route 46, or Route 120. I will tailor the rides to the temperature and shorten the distances if it is cold outside.
December 2021 - through April 2022 - TBD: if the weather does NOT allow for cross-country skiing during one of the winter months, we might go for a ride instead!

                                      CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING

For the cross-country skiing group:

***It's not too early to start thinking about the winter season!***

To anyone who is interested in CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING this winter:

I will organize outings during the winter season from November 2011 - April 2022 (weather-pending) and it'd be great if you wanted to join! We will head out every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, carpooling from the Lausanne area (TBD) at 9:15. Many cross-country ski areas - such as Marchairuz, Mollendruz, Les Rasses, St-George, La Givrine, or Froideville - are reachable from Lausanne within 45 min. ( Our outings will be appropriate for beginner to advanced cross-country skiers - I also anticipate that we will have a mix of skate skiers and classic skiers. I anticipate that we will arrive back at around 12:45.

Email Bettina via if you would like to join the mailing list.

Equipment: You will need to bring your own, or rented, equipment. François Sport in Bremblens opens at 9 am for anyone who would like to rent skis for the day - we will leave at 9:15 to allow for daily rentals. Alternatively, the shop also offers seasonal rentals.

Routes & Groups: We'll break into groups of different abilities and interests at the trailheads - as the trails are groomed, it will be easy to follow the different route options (and difficult to get lost). I will prepare different options for each outing, including interval training if anyone is interested.

Beginners: If you have never cross-country skied before (or are thinking about crossing over from classic to skating or vice versa) and you would like to take a lesson, I can try to organize a group lesson with an instructor or give you some recommendations for private lessons. Please let me know if you are interested in this possibility. While there will be no instruction during our regular outings, there should be lots of emotional support.  ;-)

Ski Passes: You can purchase day passes (CHF12), weekly passes (CHF40), or annual passes. Annual passes are available for Suisse Romande (CHF100), for Suisse Romande and the French Jura (CHF120), or for all of Switzerland (CHF 160).,

Until there is snow... our cycling group will continue heading out every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month as the weather allows!

November is the end of the hiking season so the Hiking Group will cease activity for the winter. Hikes will start again next spring, probably in April.

Sally Wenger

In principle we are walking every Monday afternoon, weather permitting!

Although many of our group members have now received their 2 injections we still need to exercise caution.  Social distancing should still be observed during our walks.  Please feel free to wear your mask if you would feel more comfortable. We will continue to concentrate on walks where the path is wide enough to allow the 1.5 metres between us and room to pass others safely.
Group members watch out for a WhatsApp message before 10.00 each Monday morning.  Normally we meet at 14.00   If there is no official walk on a particular day members can always use WhatsApp to contact each other and arrange their own walk and meeting point.  Have fun!

Potential new members should contact us by clicking on the button below.

Fit and Fun will continue walking throughout autumn and into winter. We will try our best to maintain our weekly walking schedule,  alternating days of the week (Wed-Fri) and time of day for optimal weather conditions.
Our walks normally last 2.5 - 4 hrs, with varying levels of gradient and difficulty. So put on your walking shoes and come join us! Contact us to get on our mailing list,
