Dear Ladies,
We trust you have all enjoyed this past magical month of May.
It is the wrap-up time of the year and the Summer Season will soon be upon us and with it comes further changes. Please see below the letter from Gill, our Co-President:

It has been a pleasure to serve as your IWC Co-President, along with Jennifer, throughout our 2021/22 club year. However, due to increasing family and professional commitments, it’s time now for me to step down. I have thoroughly enjoyed my role with the rest of the lovely ladies on the Executive Board and welcomed every opportunity to get to know our members during the many activities that the club has to offer. I shall be dividing my time between the beautiful island of Mallorca and Switzerland and will continue to be an active member of the IWC.
Looking forward to seeing you all at our summer lunch event on 10th June.
Gill x

After consideration and discussion, Jennifer has agreed to stay in the role as President, with the active support of the members of the Executive Board. It will be hard to replace Gill, who has contributed so much this past year to the smooth running of our Club.

We are happy to announce that Lynn Denton has agreed to stay on the board and this time in the capacity of Secretary. Her efficient approach to the role will be appreciated.
The meeting and coaching session held at our Clubhouse on May 6th, organized by Beverly Grahame and presented by Daphna Daily entitled “Focus-In” was well-attended and enjoyed by a number of our members. It is always a good feeling when a good coach can motivate us to finally make those changes that we have been contemplating for a while.
GUIDEBOOK 2022 – 2023
We are very pleased that both Vrushali and Ana Belen have agreed to assist in the technical and creative side of compiling our next Guidebook. Vrushali will concentrate on uploading text while Ana Belen will assist in the photo selection process. There will also be team support in proofreading headed by Lynn. Now, all we need is YOUR input. Please send in by 10 June good quality 300 dpi photographs of your activities and group outings to:
We are very grateful for the enthusiastic support we have received this past year for our Swiss-based Charity – Fondation MalleyPrairie which provides support for women in need, particularly those suffering domestic abuse. We will be announcing the final count at our upcoming Luncheon on June 10. And we will have the pleasure of the attendance of Rosamunde Rossel. And please read on for the Charity Update presented by Marion who will be announcing the selection by YOU, the members for our next year’s charity. We wish to say that we are very pleased by the number of votes and interest coming from the membership.
You will have received details by a special announcement in regards to signing up for this lovely end-of-year Ladies Luncheon to be held on June 10th at the Hotel des Trois Couronnes in Vevey. Please remember that to participate – payment is needed now. We are looking forward to seeing a lively and enthusiastic group of members enjoying a pleasant and memorable occasion.
We are happy to welcome Patricia Hungerford, Erin Denlea, and Tricia Siwajek (you will see her bio in Membership Matters).  We encourage all new members to send us a photo and bio so that our members can get to know you a little bit more, right away!
We hope that you will all find friendship, fun, and fellowship – as well as actively participating in the Club in a Volunteer capacity.
Gill and I wish you a Wonderful Summer!

We still have some left of our member-inspired, all-season cards to raise funds for our charity.

Dear Members,

Subject: If It Smells Fishy, it is Probably Phishing

In the last couple of weeks, the IWC has received several emails that look like they have been sent internally within our organisation, however, on closer inspection the sender’s email address does not match who they claim to be. So, with data breaches on the rise, I wanted to take the chance to remind you to stay vigilant against phishing attempts.

Hackers use fraudulent practices, email phishing, to spoof people into giving up their data. Hackers send messages that appear legitimate or look like they are from someone you trust within the IWC so that you engage with the message or click on malicious attachments.

I am afraid there is little we can do as an organisation to prevent these types of emails, as spam filters only work so far. The real trouble with this, in general, is that it erodes our trust and forces us to be suspicious, questioning ourselves because we do not want to get anything wrong and get into trouble for deleting an email that is genuine.
Our biggest defence, as individuals, is if in any doubt to simply delete the email and to consult someone else within the IWC. I must stress that if an email is unsolicited and has shock value i.e., asking for any kind of request to do something, usually reset a password, ask for a payment, etc. then please delete it and pat yourself on the back for taking that action.

Here are some tips to keep in mind so that we can protect the IWC and its data:

  • Double-check that the sender's email address matches who they claim to be
  • Do not click a link or download from someone you do not know, or were not expecting
  • Do not reply to a suspicious email or message from an email you do not recognize
  • Sometimes it is easier and better to ask someone else referenced in the email by phone or text to verify if something is true or not
  • And lastly, inform someone within the IWC so that we are aware of any potential attempts
Thank you for reading this and your continued vigilance,
Heidi Bezzant

News from Charity

Dear Ladies,

As the current `charity` year is slowly approaching its end it`s time to say thank you for all your efforts to collect funds in favour of Malley Prairie.

We are very happy to announce the total sum of 4`737 CHF that has come in as a result of your various activities, events, and personal donations. Un grand merci!

Following our call for charity nominations 2022/23, we received three suggestions, Mercy Ships, Vision for All, and Médecins sans Frontières (MSF), all very valuable organisations in support of those disadvantaged in the world.
Consequently, the voting was very close, but finally, the majority of our member`s votes went to
Vision for All. This organisation was founded 20 years ago by a group of Swiss ophthalmologists whose mission was and is to provide humanitarian aid in ophthalmology for populations in Asia and Africa through operations and equipment. All incoming charity funds as of the first of June will be credited to Vision for All.

Best regards,

Kristine & Marion

Membership Matters corner – news, views, and welcoming new members.

Tricia Siwajek

Hi, my name is Tricia and I am from Chicago in the US.  My husband Larry and I have been living in Clarens, near Montreux, for the past 11 years.  In February, I retired after 29 years with Nestle as a nutritionist in marketing, communications, and product development.  Now, I am thrilled to have the time to meet new friends and fuel my passions. I enjoy the Tuesday IWC hikes as well as baking, cooking, reading, and running.  I look forward to getting more involved with IWC and meeting you in the coming months.

Well here we are – the 1st of June and we are looking forward to receiving your dues for 2022-2023.  You will certainly already have heard details of the amounts payable and strong advice to pay the Early Bird rate of Frs 135.- before the 30th of June! In fact, some of you have paid already, thanks. To review how to pay please click here

Once again the Board has decided to include a special offer so please make sure to let your friends know!
New members joining in June 2022 - for just Frs 155 they can become members for the rest of this club year and the whole of 2022-2023 but they must pay before the 30th of June.
The Prize Draw!
The prize draw for 2021-2022 (for a year from 1st June 2021 - 31st May 2022) will take place at the Board Meeting in early June 2022.  Those of you who recruit new members will have your names in the hat for the bottle of champagne.   Good Luck!
So come on ladies, please think about which of your friends might like to join and get your name in the hat too!
Your ideas for recruiting new members
The IWC membership has fluctuated over the years.  For the 2020/2021 club year, we finished the year with 248 members.  A few members have already told us they will not be renewing for 2022-2023  for which we thank them.
Our membership is currently standing at 253.  We would like to recruit some more members and we would love to hear from you with your ideas as to how best to achieve this goal.  Many of you will have worked in other associations and may have some good ideas to put forward.  Please contact us at

In order to make it easier to post on the club's Instagram account, Kanika has put together a guide for this as well. To access this please click here

All log-in details for the IWC Facebook page and the IWC webpage can be found in the IWC Guidebook for 2021-2022.

For the club year 2021-2022, our librarian Leng will be delighted to welcome you
either at a mutually convenient time (to be fixed via our email address),
or the third Wednesday of the month at 2-4 pm (kindly confirm beforehand)

Leng is looking for an IWC member interested in books about different topics to be a co-librarian.

Some Guidance on Book Donations

Thanks to the generous book donations of members past and present our library can now boast an enthralling collection of books, with themes ranging from the classics to the romantic, historical, crime/thriller, and sci-fi.

Not least, you can find Latin American and contemporary Asian authors waiting to bring you on interesting literary journeys, all nestling on our shelves.

However, as for the shelves, whatever enticing subjects they may contain, they are not extensible. This is why I would like to inform club members that we can only accept, from now on,  paperbacks and not hardcover volumes, such as reference books, self-help volumes, biographies on subjects not especially currently relevant.

Leng is looking for an IWC member interested in books about different topics to be a co-librarian.

Opening times: Every THIRD Wednesday of the month, from 2-4 pm.

                                 Open to all interested members
                                                                        Dear Club Members,
It has recently come to our attention again that while there are a plethora of activities available during the week – very little is on offer for those members who search for Weekend Activities.
What we propose is that you come up with ideas and implement them yourselves under the umbrella of a new activity group entitled “Weekend Activity Group”. We suggest you consider:
A walk/hike on a Saturday or Sunday morning or afternoon.
A lunch get-together either day.
An evening dinner at a restaurant on Friday also.
A cultural activity such as a small concert in a church, an outing to a jazz festival.
Or just about anything else where you can exchange friendship, company, and ideas.
This is open to everyone who is keen to join other members on a weekend. Some of you cannot participate during the week because of work commitments, while some of you simply want to have more FUN! – Now is the time to RESPOND!
While one person will need to take the lead – this can be a flexible group effort.
Please email Lynn:

Belle Epoque Grand Hotel Palace in Caux Wednesday, July 13, 2022

Originally constructed between 1900 and 1902 it is the ultimate luxury hotel of the early 1900s that hosted the rich and famous travellers of its time.

The Palace is situated 700 meters above Montreux with a sweeping view over Lake Leman. The train ride to Caux is nothing short of spectacular.
Since 1946 the Palace Caux is owned by Initiatives of Change Switzerland, a charitable organization founded after WWII that is working toward peace, justice, and sustainability.

Most of the year the Palace hosts the Swiss Hotel Management School but in summer people from all over the world meet here to work towards reconciliation and sustainability. The Palace in Caux is open for guided tours only in July. We will enjoy the ‘Historic House Tour’ in English, starting with a café and croissants, and after the guided tour will have a buffet lunch at the Palace.

A guided tour in English (1,5hrs) costs CHF 350, the price per person depends on the number of participants, with coffee and croissants included. The ideal size is 15 people but not more, and it is only possible to cancel a tour before July 1, 2022.
If we have less than 15 the cost per person is higher and if we do not have enough participants we will have to cancel. So please do confirm soonest if you would like to join!

The Hermitage in Lausanne will be showing an impressive retrospective of the Neo-Impressionist  ACHILLE LAUGIER (1861 – 1944), a French artist who was known for his sensitive use of light in his paintings.
Profoundly attached to his origins in OCCITANE, 80 works of art that cover the span of his career will be on display.
Elegant, yet with simplicity – he used his immediate environment that included flowers from his garden, and portraits of family and friends. He often used just three primary colours that he juxtaposed on the canvas using a pointillist technique.
Further details and the possibility of lunch will be given later by separate mail.
Come and discover him along with Linda and Jennifer.

Pickleball coming in September! Plan to be a part of the action!

A small group of IWC members who are interested in learning to play pickleball has formed and this exciting new group will officially launch in September. Pickleball is said to be the fastest-growing team sport in the US…mainly because it’s an ideal sport for older players, not too rigorous, easy to learn, and a fun and social game to play.

We will play pickleball in Vevey where the badminton group plays, as pickleball is played on a badminton-size court.

Check Youtube for many pickleball videos to see if you might want to give it a try.

No need to sign up yet… you can do that at the September activity fair at the clubhouse.

Bonjour! Comment allez-vous?
If you know the next line, or would like to learn, join us for Beginning French Conversation, led by native speakers Brigitte Loones and Sophie Guillemin.

This new group meets at the IWC clubhouse (Avenue Eglantine 6, 1006 Lausanne) on Wednesday mornings from 10:00 to 11:30, and on Thursday afternoons from 13:30 to 15:00.

Come to either or both days at your convenience to practice A0 to A2 French in a friendly, no-pressure environment. Contact Brigitte at 076 202 25 94 to RSVP
Nous espérons vous y accueillir!
