INDEPENDENCE WEEKEND -- A CULTURAL CELEBRATION!
This year, Antigua & Barbuda Independence Day falls on a Saturday, allowing everyone to extend the celebration for a long weekend--and the National Festivals Office is taking full advantage of that with a host of activities and events related to our unique culture and history.
The schedule is so full that you have to check out each day's listing of all the things you can do. Friday
is National Dress Day and there is also a concert and Fun Day in Barbuda planned. Saturday
, the official holiday, is National Market Day, accompanied by a long list of activities.
A Sunrise Fete, film festival and racing occupy the Sunday
Independence calendar, and the public holiday on Monday
brings the Ceremonial Parade and Food Fair as well as events on Barbuda.
Many restaurants are helping to fortify revelers and extend the celebrations by offering specials. Cecilia's
will be open from noon on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday for lunches and liming by the sea. Coconut Grove
offers an Antiguan Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, and a Beach Barbecue on Monday. And the Palm Restaurant
at Blue Waters hosts an Independence Gourmet Extravaganza Buffet for Sunday lunch.
A celebration of local artist Glenroy Aaron is being hosted by Art at the Ridge
as part of the ceremonies, and the opening reception will be held at the Sugar Club on Friday.
And the business community is also joining the celebration with some offers. For example, Cattleya Boutique
is having a 15% off sale and Blue Waters Spa
has special pricing on relaxing treatments. For those visiting during the celebrations, Jolly Beach Resort
has a special nightly rate.
So celebrate along with the rest of the country this weekend, and enjoy yourself!
