Congratulations are in order for Mark Slats and Kai Wiedmer, known as pairs team Row4Cancer who arrived this morning in Nelson's Dockyard, marking the end of their trans-Atlantic row for the 2020 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.
Some may remember Mark Slats from the 2017 TWAC who earned the nickname of 'The Flying Dutchman' when he smashed the World Record for fastest solo rowing crossing, arriving just hours after our own Team Antigua Atlantic Rowers, marking the solo record at 30 days 7 hours 49 minutes. Mark Slats returned for this campaign alongside teammate Kai Wiedmer to secure the World Record for fastest pairs rowing crossing, now standing at 32 days, 22 hours, and 13 minutes.
Track the 2020 TWAC fleet here and keep an eye on Team Antigua Pairs as our own Travis Weste and Jojo Nunes continue their 3000nm row, with ETA currently around early or mid-February. Arrivals will be different this year due to COVID-19 and crowd gathering is not permitted. It's best to watch the arrivals on Facebook live, but if you intend to attend an arrival, masks must be worn at all times, physical distancing must be observed, and you must not come in contact with the rowers or race organizers.
