Principal's Update

The Daily Grind
Dear parents and caregivers,
We have had a fantastic start to the new term. Students obviously have had a good break and have come bouncing back full of enthusiasm and great ideas.
On Wednesday next week we will see our Year 4-8 students off to camp. They have 3 action packed days away. Starting with a Marae visit at Te Hana, they also have a tour of the Bennetts Chocolate Factory planned and then there is a myriad of normal camp activities. We hope they will have an action packed, educational adventure.
We continue this term exploring our Theme for the year – Learning through Experience. This involves a number of outings and we would love to have your input during these.
Today our Friday Technology Programme for our Senior students has once again started up. The aim of this programme is to add a dimension to their learning that they would ordinarily not have access to. For this term we are offering Food Technology, Digital Technology and Science.
Before School Care
From next week Before School Care will only be available if a student has been booked in. Please note that unless your child has been booked in there will be no supervision for them before 8am.
At present we have had no response to our request for helpers to run clubs this term. As such we will defer starting these until the second half of the term. If you have a passion that you would be willing to share with our wonderful students, please do consider giving up your valuable time for an hour once a week. If this does appeal, please contact either myself or any of the classroom teachers to let us know what your passion is, and we will work with you to make a difference in our student’s education.
We are once again running school lunches on a Friday this term The cost remains $3.50 per week or $35 for the term. As the weather is getting slightly colder we will have some warm lunches available. As an added bonus, with Soccer and sports on, Angela will be making some of the meals available as a family takeaway. See below for further details. Term 2 Lunch Menu
Board of Trustees Elections
Parents play a vital role in the running of our school by volunteering to be part of our Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees ensures that Governance matters relating to the school are all in order. It means giving up a couple of hours each month to ensure your child is getting a quality education. Nomination forms have been sent to each individual parent on the Parent Roll this week, so if you would like to play a part in your child’s education please do read the information that is wending its way to you via snail mail.
Grandparents Day
On Friday the 8th of July we would love to host all grandparents at school. An outline of the day will follow closer to the time, but we are planning to have the Grandparents participate in a variety of activities alongside the students. We are also going to treat our grandparents to a 3 course lunch which will be planned, cooked, and served by our senior students.
Photography Exhibition
Our amazing in-house photographer, Theressa, has once again committed to an exhibition at the Estuary Arts Centre. She has very cleverly and aptly named the Exhibition “Insta-gran”. The focus for the exhibition is the connection between generations, and hosting our grandparents will give a wonderful opportunity for our students to indulge in this passion and explore our focus for Term 1 and 2 of “Who are we? Why are we? What makes us special?”
Kind regards
