From the Executive Director
Registration is open for the 2017 USU/CEO Joint Summer Meeting. This year the meeting will be Thursday, July 20, 2017 – Friday, July 21, 2017 and located at Georgia State University; Student Center East, Suite 310, 55 Gilmer St., Atlanta, GA 30303. Register by this Thursday, April 27, 2017 to receive the discounted rate of $195. Registration rates will increase on April 28, 2017.

USU and CEO will meet jointly this summer to focus on strengthening the resiliency of our universities and their local communities. The meeting will focus on building deep partnerships within and across institutions. During this uniquely designed convening, attendees will participate in a facilitated learning experience crafted around a case study and focused expert conversations, examining what it means to strengthen resiliency on our campuses and in our neighborhoods.

We invite all health, strengthening community, and student performance strand representatives to accompany their presidents and chancellors to the meeting. The strands will meet during the conference.

A block of discounted rooms has been secured at the Ellis Hotel, located at 176 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta, GA 30303.

We hope to see you and your team in Atlanta, GA in July.

The University of Central Florida is leading the way in research and technology with its new facility and mission BRIDG (Bridging the Innovation to Development Gap)

The University of California, Riverside together with a team of industry partners, are installing a solar power system on the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe reservation near Lake Havasu, CA.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is offering innovative workforce preparation with the UW Flexible Option. The program gives adult learners more control over the learning experience.


The following USU members were ranked among the nation's best in the EPA Green Power Challenge: Cleveland State University, The Ohio State University, and Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County will be launching a major new five-year initiative to promote diversity and inclusion in the humanities with a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU) is inviting USU members to submit proposals on The Urban Advantage. The chosen proposals will be presented at  their annual conference that will be held October 9 - 11, 2017 in Denver, Colorado. The deadline for proposals is April 21st. Click here for information.

In Canoga Park, a community in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley, many students at Canoga Park High School aren’t planning to attend for college. Most are low-income, many are first-generation immigrants, and some come from families whose members have less than a high school education. Even if college were on their radar, the social, cultural and economic facts of their lives pose substantial barriers. Additionally, they don’t always have the support they need to navigate the bureaucracy of a college application and financial aid process.
