Polar Encounters

Following its run at Bonhams over the summer, our fantastic exhibition, Polar Encounters, will be on display at the Polar Museum. 

Featuring 200 years of Arctic art by Inuit artists and European travellers to the far north, the exhibited work from the SPRI collection shows different interpretations of life at home, at camp and at sea.


Drop-in, free to view. Tuesday - Saturday, 10am-4pm, 18 September 2018 - 13 April 2019

Book Signing

Author Joanna Grochowicz will join us in the Polar Museum on Saturday 22nd September, to talk about and sign copies of her book 'Into the White'.

Aimed at young readers aged 10-14, the book tells the enthralling and harrowing true story of Captain Scott and his race to be the first to make it to the South Pole.

Saturday 22nd September, 11am-1pm, The Polar Museum. Free, no need to book.


Handling Sessions

Due to popular demand, our free, drop-in polar handling sessions, will continue throughout September.

With an interesting range of themes including Antarctic Equipment, Polar Geology, Inuit Art, Whaling & Polar Exploration, get up close and hands-on with a variety of objects from the museum handling collections .

At The Polar Museum. Every Saturday between 10am & 1pm. Free. No need to book.

LGBTQ+ Tours

We are looking for brilliant volunteer guides to lead tours on LGBTQ+ and non-binary themes at the Polar Museum, and three other Cambridge University Museums.

Based on the successful LGBTQ+ tours at the V&A and British Museum, you will help us explore and share the hidden histories in our collections.

Brad Borkan

Join the Friends of SPRI and author Brad Borkan to discuss the book he co-wrote: 'When Your Life Depends on It'.

Describing real, life-&-death decisions made by early Antarctic explorers & the lessons we can learn from to help us make better decisions in our modern-day lives.
