WELCOME TO RAIN+ THE BRIEFING

Prof Stuart Russell, founder of the Center for Human-Compatible Artificial Intelligence, at the University of California, Berkeley has demanded an international moratorium on Lethal Autonomous Weapons. His four lectures for the BBC, Living With Artificial Intelligence, to be broadcast later this year, address the existential threat presented by machines more powerful than humans.

At the Pentagon, in an effort to streamline processes and create a cohesive approach to the use of artificial intelligence and data, the Defense Digital Service (DDS), the Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) and the office of the Chief Data Officer (CDO) are all set to report up to a new individual, tentatively named the Chief Data & AI Officer.

And finally, Spotify's users are said to be up in arms over the company's CEO's plans to invest in AI defense tech.
