Jenni Hill to Supreme Court

CEOs for Gender Equity congratulates Justice Jenni Hill, founding member, on her appointment to the Supreme Court of Western Australia. Thank you to Justice Hill for championing equal opportunity in the legal profession and in WA. It was great to have heard Justice Hill discussing the role of sponsorship this month with Tower Consulting.

KPMG Report- Accounting for the Gender Pay Gap 

KPMG Australia released a report this month confirming that the leading driver of the gender pay gap in Australia is gender discrimination; it’s systemic, not overt.

So, what’s the bottom line? 

We need more than 1 in 3 chief executives committing to a gender pay gap audit in WA. Transparency and awareness are crucial to closing the gender pay gap. 

This Month at CGE
CEO Roundtable hosted by UDIA
Tanya Steinbeck CEO of the Urban Development Institute of Australia WA (UDIA) hosted a CEO Roundtable this month. UDIA is a membership organisation representing all aspects of the property development industry in WA.
This CEO Roundtable invited leaders to reflect on their journeys to the C Suite and share whats's working and what’s not within their organisations. The importance of inclusive and flexible work practices in organisations was also acknowledged. 

CEOs for Gender Equity thanks UDIA and their members and guests; Western Power, Stockland, Lendlease Group, LandCorp and Roberts Day for their progressiveness  and leadership.
Allure South Sea Pearls Deep Dive

Hosted by Allure South Sea Pearls, the evening focussed on our why for gender equity and why it's good for us, our workplaces and WA.  Interestingly, the evening shed some light on buying behaviour. Women influence 80 cents in every dollar for every purchase with research indicating that women buy pearls while men buy diamonds.

I am delighted to join CGE as a Gender Equity Consultant. I am committed to advancing outcomes of gender equity by working to develop and uphold fair workplace standards and assist organisations evaluate their systems through a gender lens so they may effect positive change to all genders in the workplace and beyond.
After pursuing a Bachelor of Laws and Arts degree at the University of Notre Dame in 2017, I studied International Relations and French in Aix en Provence, France. While there, I gained valuable experience volunteering at an Asylum Seeker Youth Centre in Marseille while exploring the implications of Gender inequality on Western Europe, during my studies. My passion to advance gender equity here in WA has resulted in my contribution to the United Nations Women’s Committee WA, the Emergent Women Program (an initiative of the WA Liberal Party) and assisting women at the Mental Health Law Centre as a paralegal.
I am currently undertaking my graduate diploma of legal practice and training for the 200km bike ride to raise funds for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.

Gender Pay Gap | Radio Interviews

From Geraldton to Geelong and on Curtin radio, CGE was interviewed on radio news this month to debunk the myth that like for like pay is not the same as the gender pay gap. The  leading causes of this disparity, and solutions, following the report by KPMG were also discussed. 

Equal Pay Day | WA Today 

Women in WA have to work an extra 100 days in 2019 to earn what their male peers earned in 2018 which was average full-time ordinary earnings per week of $1912.80 before tax. For every dollar a West Australian man earns, a woman earns 76.9 cents. And it's not because we aren't asking for more...

G7 Summit Gender Equality Advisory Council 

"The leaders of the G7 countries have the power to lead the way. We urge them to use that power for good.” As world leaders gathered for the G7 Summit this month in Biarritz France, members of the G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council are urging countries to ditch archaic and discriminatory laws and promote empowerment.
