Recent changes to nonprofit law
A new law, Bill 154, the Cutting Unnecessary Red Tape Act, 2017 is changing parts of Ontario’s Corporations Act (OCA) and the future Not-For-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA).
Visit the “Recent changes” section on our website to see how Bill 154 affects your nonprofit, and what changes you can make now.
Note: We have not yet updated the “Future law” section of the website which deals with the ONCA. Stay tuned for updates to that section.
Government announces target date for ONCA
The government has said they are working to bring the ONCA into force as early as possible, with a target of early 2020. This gives not-for-profit corporations at least 24 months’ notice before the ONCA comes into force.
Most nonprofits should not make changes to comply with the ONCA yet. Some details may change when regulations are published.
