Kybella™ (deoxycholic acid) is FDA approved for improving the appearance of moderate to severe fullness associated with submental fat (double chin).

Before Kybella™ the only options were liposuction or a neck/face lift to eliminate the excess fat under the chin.  Now with Kybella™, the first non-surgical procedure is available.

Kybella™ treatments are individually tailored to each patient.  Kybella™ is a non-human and non-animal formulation of deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into subcutaneous fat, Kybella™ causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

Within one treatment session patients can expect to receive up to 50 injections in a single treatments.  Treatments are done 4-6 weeks apart.  The number of treatments needed depends on the individual, but usually as many as 2-4 treatments are necessary.

Common side effects associates with the use of Kybella™ may include, but are not limited to, swelling, pain, itching, numbness, erythema, tingling and skin tightening.  Theses side effects typically resolve without additional treatments needed.

The safe and effective use of Kybella™ for the treatment of subcutaneous fat outside the submental region has not been established and is not recommended.
