ST. ILLUMINATOR'S WEEKLY NEWS
TOWN HALL MEETING
On Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 3:30pm the Board of Directors of 219 E. 27th Street Corporation held a Town Hall meeting open to all St.  Illuminator’s parishioners.

Rev. Fr. Mesrob Lakissian led the meeting with a prayer and blessing for all present. Mr. Antranig Vartanian, vice-chairman of the Board of Trustees and Mr. Chris Parnagian, Esq., legal adviser of the Cathedral, introduced the new Board of Directors for the 219 E. 27th St. Corp., followed by Mr. Setrak Agonian, Board President, who outlined the Board’s initiatives.

Mr. Paul Nadjarian and Mr. Raffi Azadian provided details of necessary improvements to 219 E 27th Street Corp., which include elevator replacement, oil to gas conversion and much more. To ensure the Cathedral’s real estate investment generates revenue for the future, certain repairs and upkeep are essential. Refinancing of the Cathedral’s existing loan and additional capital are underway. Details of the refinancing were presented and discussed.

We thank the parishioners who attended the Town Hall meeting and provided valuable comments.

SUNDAY SCHOOL STUDENTS CREATE STRONGER TIES WITH CHURCH COMMUNITY

On January 12, Sunday School students went on a “treasure hunt” after Badarak. The group was divided into two teams who were sent to find clues given by various representatives of key figures in the church. Clues were given by Der Hayr, Yeretzgin, a church board member, the archdeacon, a Sunday school teacher, and the organist. After collecting all the clues, the students arranged the papers in the correct order to spell out the secret message, “Jesus is the reason for the season.” Through this activity, teachers aimed to encourage students to know “who is who” in church life and also get to know each person and create relationships.

FIRST SUNDAY AFTER NATIVITY
THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO JOHN (2:1-11)

On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine'. And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Now standing there were six stone water jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to them, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. He said to them, “Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward.” So they took it.
When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. “But you have kept the good wine until now.” Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.”
