COVID TOOLKIT FOR NONPROFITS

COVID-19 is taking a tremendous economic toll on Michigan nonprofits, and we know the virus will remain a threat for months to come, if not years. As Michigan nonprofits scramble to implement new operating plans and to meet the increasing demand for services, the need for accessible, trusted resources is greater now than ever.

This series is presented in partnership with Michigan Nonprofit Association, Co.act Detroit, Michigan Community Resources, and the Council of Michigan Foundations.

Shuttered Venues Grant Program Update

The Small Business Administration has issued its first batch of answers to Frequently Asked Questions on the Shuttered Venue Operators Grants Program, one of the new programs in the year-end COVID relief bill. While largely targeted to for-profit stages for live entertainment, nonprofits are eligible.

Among the questions answered: Can an organization apply for both a PPP Second Draw and SVO Grant? (not at the same time). Are charitable donations and grants counted in determining revenue loss? (no, only “earned revenue from various sales of goods or services, such as admission tickets, merchandise, food and beverages, advertising sales and contracted presentation income.”)

Note, the SVOG program uses a different calculation than the PPP for counting declining revenue for determining eligibility. We understand that these FAQs could be changed after consultation with stakeholders. More FAQs are expected.
