MBTC STR proposal vote is tonight!
Please attend at 6pm to vote YES!
Meeting is held at the Belmont Park Community Room, above the arcade.

We need eligible MBTC members (Member for more than 30 days) to show up and vote YES for the  compromise drafted by reasonable community member's on both sides of this issue and approved unanimously by the Executive Board. This proposal will be sent to City officials for them to consider when drafting their new proposal, which we expect to happen later this year.

Though the feedback we received has been mostly positive (with a compromise it's impossible to please everyone) it was concerning to hear from some community stakeholders that said they were part of the "silent majority" that supports STRs. Respectfully, silence is worthless in this case and this is what lead to last July's ban of Mission Beach vacation rentals. Supporters remained quiet while our Town Council leaders at the time misrepresented our community and supported the primary only ban approved by City Council. We will find ourselves in a similar situation if we do not continue to be active on this issue.

Please review meeting guidelines below and be sure to bring proof of membership. Membership position has changed hands a few times since December so it might be best to bring your proof of payment. If you completed online, you will have a receipt emailed from with the subject "Thank you for your order!". The board will also have a list of active members.

Below is the MBTC email with more details on the meeting. We also encourage members to vote Yes for the ratification of board members Dane and Rob.
STR proposal vote at tomorrow's general meeting
Below is the framework for how this meeting will be conducted

Short term rentals vote special meeting guidelines.

The important issue of Short Term Rentals is upon us at our June general meeting tomorrow. We have seen a lot of different opinions on this issue and to make sure that everyone is treated fairly and the meeting is conducted smoothly and in a timely manner, we have come up with a special way of conducting this section of our general meeting.

First, all voting members will have to get a voting card after identifying their membership. Anyone with a voting card is then able to sign up for a speaking slot. The STR committee will be there and have prepared a short presentation on this proposal. This will hopefully answer most of the questions and concerns you may have. Next we will go to the speaker list. This is your chance to ask questions of the STR committee, voice your opinions about the STR proposal, etc. Each speaker will be allowed 1 minute to speak. We recommend having your questions and comments prepared ahead of time but also please pay close attention to the STR committee as they may answer your questions or concerns during their presentation. It is our goal that between the presentation and the speaker slots that all voters will have a clear idea of how they would like to vote. We will then go to the voting phase. Remember that the board has specifically marked this resolution as a yes or no vote only with no amendments from the floor.

President's Notes:
We as an entire board have worked very hard on this issue. We recognize all of the strong opinions on all angles with relation to the very unique nature of Mission Beach. This issue's eventual outcome with the city will no doubt have strong impacts on the future of Mission Beach. I am proud to say that the STR committee has done a fine job of taking almost all opinions into strong consideration and accommodation when drafting this proposal.  People from all sides of this debate came together and worked out what was acceptable and in the spirit of true compromise we bring this to the general membership following a unanimous board approval. I cannot be more proud of their efforts and the eventual draft that they produced. When I ask you to consider this favorably I ask that you look at this with your neighbor in mind, with consideration for others of different opinions, and for a solution that meets the needs of Mission Beach as a whole. We know it's not perfect, and we also know that we aren't writing the actual laws and if/when this passes our council our next duty is to sell this to our city leaders who will no doubt pick and choose what they like and don't from what we have proposed. When I look at this draft I see at least 75% of what either side of this debate could ask for, and that for me is a big win. Of course the vote is yours to make and we trust you to make the right call. A full text of the draft can be found on the link below. See you tomorrow night!
