Planning Commission Approves Ordinance

Last week the San Diego Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve the Good Neighbor Short-Term Rental Ordinance proposed by Councilmember Campbell with limited changes that included additional whole home rental licenses in Tier 3. There were no changes to the proposed Mission Beach Tier 4 licenses with a 30% community limit.

The City Council must still approve the ordinance and new laws would not be enforced till 2022, but last week's action is a positive step in the right direction. We are confident that we are on the right track, and after years of inaction, we will soon have reasonable regulations in place that protect the property rights of responsible STR owners and our neighborhoods.

We expect the Council to take up the proposal early next year and encourage everyone to remain engaged till this process is complete. As we have seen the Mission Beach Town Council is an important resource to city hall as they consider community issues and feedback.
