STARTS TONIGHT ||  Daintree Ferry Temporary Closure

A PASSENGER vessel will operate in daylight hours – between 6am and 6pm for the Saturday and Sunday.
A new loading ramp arrived last weekend (see below) and will be installed on the southern side of the vessel.

New Rainforest Nursery Approved

A PROPOSED nursery will seek to grow 150,000 native plants per year in Cow Bay to help restore and regenerate the Daintree Rainforest.

Douglas Shire Council approved a Rainforest Rescue development application to temporarily re-configure a lot and conduct intense horticulture.

Business Basics Grants Program Open

The grant offers a single up-front payment of $5,000 ex GST to eligible small businesses, and will close when sufficient applications have been received for competitive assessment.

Carnivale Road Closures

The Carnivale Street Parade is planned for Friday 20 May 2022.

There will be staggered road closures throughout the day from 11am through to 11:30pm, in the area bounded by Mowbray, Owen, Macrossan, Wharf and Grant Streets.

  • Council joined forces with Cook Shire Council in a strategic treatment of a large infestations of Gamba Grass within the Annan/ Endeavour catchment.
  • Our weed management team is working with Mossman QPWS & Jabalbina Aboriginal Corporation on the annual Siam Weed Management Program which will run from May to June 2022.
  • Our civil crew had a busy week clearing tree debris and road obstructions, fixing potholes, and resealing roads after wash outs caused by recent heavy rain and flooding. 
  • A new playground is being installed at Daintree Village.
  • New seats and shelter was installed at the Four Mile Beach Esplanade in Port Douglas (See below).
