Reef to Reef Mountain Bike Riders Reach Douglas

About 900 mountain bikers riders concluded their four day ride at Four Mile Beach.
The participants, their support crews and event staff wrapped up the competition with an awards ceremony located at Port Douglas Surf Club.

BE PREPARED || Wet Outlook for Spring

The Bureau of Meteorology has moved to 'La Niña ALERT' with the likelihood of La Niña returning this spring increasing to around 3 times the normal risk.
Above median September to November rainfall is very likely for FNQ (chances are greater than 80%).
This rainfall outlook is important given the increased risk of flood following above average rainfall for the past few months and above average soil moisture levels.

Changed Traffic Conditions - Port Douglas Gran Fondo - September 10 & 11

The Port Douglas Gran Fondo courses will take riders along Great Barrier Reef Drive between Port Douglas and Palm Cove, while taking in breathtaking views through the palm trees alongside the Coral Sea.

Apply Now For Council's Major Grant

Council's Major Grant program is now open for applications.
Organisations, groups and individuals with an idea to benefit the community are encouraged to contact council and arrange a time to discuss your project with the grants officer.

Applications will close 4:30pm, Friday 30 September 2022

Abandoned Vehicle Auction - September 2022

Unclaimed abandoned vehicles are disposed, or offered for sale by auction. Council currently have 17 vehicles scheduled for auction on Monday 26 September.

Hiptage Aerial Surveys in Mossman & surrounds

Council’s biosecurity team and Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service Mossman will be conducting aerial Hiptage surveys on 6 & 7 September.

Online Pickes Auction this weekend

An online auction of material will open for bidding at 12pm Friday 26 August and will close 5pm Tuesday 30 August.
Collection must be made within 14 days from purchase, between 10am - 2pm Tuesday to Thursday.

Reminder of Temporary Maintenance Closure at the Daintree Ferry - November 2022

The Daintree River Ferry will not operate from 10pm Friday 18 November 
2022
until 5am Tuesday 22 November 2022 to allow for important safety maintenance  work to be completed.

Douglas News Bites 

  • The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) started culvert replacement works on Captain Cook Highway (CCH), at Parker Creek Crossing, south of Mossman CBD. Road users should expect minor delays and plan their journeys accordingly.
  • Council's biosecurity weed team has finished the annual Miconia surveys in the Whyanbeel Valley. Miconia is a serious weed in Tahiti and Hawaii, where it forms dense thickets in rainforests and displaces native flora and fauna.
  • Construction crews continue to progress on the kerb and channel works on Mossman Street. Works are expected to be finished on Friday 23 September 2022.
  • Local Kuku Yalanji woman, Shanelle (Kalkamanungu), was a guest presenter for Storytime at Mossman Library (see below). She read the Story of Goobiddi to celebrate Book Week. Regular Douglas Libraries patrons enjoyed learning Dukul, Binda, Bungku, Durru (Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes), and everyone drew their favourite minya (animal).
