The Bureau of Meteorology has moved to 'La Niña ALERT' with the likelihood of La Niña returning this spring increasing to around 3 times the normal risk.
Above median September to November rainfall is very likely for FNQ (chances are greater than 80%).

Douglas News Bites

  • The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) started culvert replacement works on Captain Cook Highway (CCH), at Parker Creek Crossing, south of Mossman CBD. Road users should expect minor delays and plan their journeys accordingly.
  • Council's biosecurity weed team has finished the annual Miconia surveys in the Whyanbeel Valley. Miconia is a serious weed in Tahiti and Hawaii, where it forms dense thickets in rainforests and displaces native flora and fauna.
  • Construction crews continue to progress on the kerb and channel works on Mossman Street. Works are expected to be finished on Friday 23 September 2022.
  • Local Kuku Yalanji woman, Shanelle (Kalkamanungu), was a guest presenter for Storytime at Mossman Library (see below). She read the Story of Goobiddi to celebrate Book Week. Regular Douglas Libraries patrons enjoyed learning Dukul, Binda, Bungku, Durru (Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes), and everyone drew their favourite minya (animal).
