Douglas gets a wriggle on with Healthy waste habits

STAFF are taking responsibility of their food waste at the Mossman Administration Building.

Douglas Shire Council released 1000 worms into a sub-pod, an inground compost system and worm farm, to make better use of its food waste.

Gravel Renewal Program To Continue

OUR grading crew started the Gravel Renewal Program on identified roads with defects and low gravel coverage. Works include clearing gravel from drains and adjoining fields, road-reshaping and adding a new gravel layer.

Daintree Ferry Temporary Closure - May 2022

The Daintree ferry service will cease at 10pm on Friday 6 May 2022 and resume at 5am on Monday 9 May 2022.

  • Warri Park maintenance works are underway until April 2022. 
  • Mowing and Brush-cutting are a constant during the growth season between now and May.
  • Contractor mowers are on a fortnightly cycle with weekly runs on the sports-fields while crews are working hard to keep the brush cutting under control.
  • Biosecurity crews are focusing on various weed species such as Giant Sensitive Plant, Sicklepod.
  • New BBQ shelters will be installed at Newell Beach on 21 February 2022 and Rex Smeal Park on 7 March 2022.
  • A new shelter and seating will be installed next to the all abilities access on Four Mile Beach.

  • 500 trees to Daintree Life

Council recycles & reuses road materials to create topsoil, fill material, rock and crushed concrete (see below).

Old deteriorating barrier kerb which was replaced along Alchera Drive was crushed at a site near Mossman and will be re-used for future projects!
