Recently, our fearless leader Greg Aldridge, CEO of EveryMan was announced as a nominee under the senior category for the 2022 ACT Australian of the Year Awards.

For those of you that don’t know Greg, he is a registered psychologist who has worked in the community sector since 1977, with experience in complex case management, counselling, family therapy and consultation to health, welfare, mental health, education, and legal services.

Greg joined EveryMan (previously the Canberra Men’s Centre) in 1998 and was appointed as co-director with co-founder Gerald Franks in 2004, becoming the Chief Executive Officer in 2015.

During Greg’s time at EveryMan, he has worked tirelessly to advocate for men, particularly men living with high and complex needs whose behaviours present equally complex management challenges to mainstream government and community sector agencies.

Working With the Man

We sat down with Simon Port from EveryMan Australia to talk about violence prevention and the EveryMan Australia program that focuses on the safety of women and children by working with men to take responsibility for abusive, violent, coercive, or controlling behaviours.

Working With the Man provides the support men need to learn to live free of violence - by understanding and acknowledging the effects of their abusive behaviour.

Simon is the Manager of Violence Prevention Services at EveryMan and has a proven passion for social justice and assisting men and their families to live better lives without violence and fear. Simon’s worldly and clinical experience allows him to support men while holding them to account for unacceptable behaviour.

Simon has a degree in social science and is one of a handful of individuals in Australia that has completed a Graduate Certificate in Men’s Behaviour Change Individual and Group-work Interventions delivered by NSW Health Education Centre Against Violence.

As COVID lockdown comes to an end, hibernating bears hold some lessons for readjusting to 'normal' life

As COVID lockdowns become a thing of the past and life begins to resemble some sort of normality we are reminded that it isn't always easy emerging out of hibernation and slotting right back into our normal routines. EveryMan of the Month

You may be familiar with our EveryMan of the Month initiative that recognises men who’ve done something great - a contribution, an invention, an act of kindness or generosity. There’s no science behind it, just finding a story that inspires, makes us laugh, or is moving in some way.

We are working towards transforming a news culture that rarely finds good news stories about men and genuine stories about real men doing good stuff in the world.
