NAS U10 Rugby vs Deira International School
Final Score DIS 10 - 40 NAS Dubai

On Wednesday afternoon the NAS U10 rugby team played their second league fixture of the season away to Deira International School (DIS).

It was a great start to the game for NAS Dubai, with Nero Jones as captain leading from the front and taking the game to DIS early on. Nero scored early after some very good forward play. DIS responded quickly with their powerful winger surging over the line after some desperate tackling by NAS. Darius and Edward took the game to DIS with strong runs. The larger boys of DIS caused NAS defense problems but a determined effort meant they did not cross the try line. NAS began to dominate the break down and scored three further tries before the half time whistle went.

The second half was a similar story to the first with NAS showing their superiority in technique especially in the break down. Fantastic tackling by James White was a particular highlight of the game. NAS scored four further tries before WIS scored a late consolation.

Coaches Corner – Chris Hand (NAS U10 Rugby Coach)
A fantastic effort from the boys, we took the game to WIS and ensured we finished on top. It was great to see good sportsmanship throughout the game.
Try Scorers: Connor Air (2), Nero Jones (2), Milo Harman, Edward Reynolds (2) and Tomas Povedano
Man of the Match – James White

NAS U11 Rugby vs Jebel Ali
Final Score JAPS 10 - 45 NAS Dubai

On Tuesday afternoon the NAS U11 rugby team played their third league fixture of the season as they travelled to play against Jebel Ali Primary School (JAPS).  It was a sluggish start to the game from NAS with them gifting JAPS the opening try when their star player ran through the middle of the team to give the game’s opening try. However, NAS Dubai's mistake was soon eradicated when they started to find their feet through their captain Callum Hamilton (6B) who demonstrated excellent strength and speed to bring NAS back into the game. Consecutive scores from the speedster on the wing Kai Woodhouse (6B) and Callum once again made the score 20-5 at half time.

The aim of the second half was to keep it simple and tighten up in defence and they took that advice on board with Ben Sherriff (6B) pulling the strings at fly half alongside William Hallett (6D) at scrum half. Scores from man of the match Sebastian Donnelly (6B) and Guillaume Castree (6C) increased NAS Dubai's lead further until JAPS got themselves on the scoresheet again after a NAS mistake in their own 20.

Further scores from Mark Sherriff (6C) after an excellent run from Josh Harbour (6E) made the game comfortable; however, the boys continued to push to the final whistle with Kai Woodhouse (6B) completing his hat-trick in superb fashion before William Hallet (6D) recapped a memorable win for the U11 rugby team!

Coaches Corner – Danny Thomas (NAS U11 Rugby Coach)
A great result against a team we narrowly lost against in the DC 7’s competition. The boys are playing well together and more importantly as a team. There are one or two things we still need to work on but it’s great to see them enjoying their rugby.  We now have our toughest test against Repton on Sunday which should be a great game!
Try Scorers: Kai Woodhouse (3), Callum Hamilton (2), William Hallett,  Mark Sherriff, Seb Donnelly, Guillaume Castree
Man of the Match – Seb Donnelly (6B)
NAS U12 Rugby vs Gems Wellington Academy Al Khail
Final Score WEK 0 - 35 NAS Dubai

Monday night saw a fantastic performance from the U12 boy’s rugby team, beating GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail 35-0. An amazing achievement considering the squad has only been playing together for three weeks! With three games remaining to play, confidence is high heading into our next fixture again English College.

NAS U14 Rugby vs Dubai College
DC 20 - 5 NAS Dubai

Wednesday night saw our U14 squad come up against a vastly experienced Dubai College team in the DASSA league. NAS started brightly and some superb tackling and running saw the game tied after 10 minutes at 5-5. Dubai College started to find gaps and soon restored their lead, eventually taking the game 20-5. This was an amazing performance from the boys who are learning and improving at each fixture. Next week we look forward to our next game against Deira International School.

The Year 5 Team went to Wellington International School for their first Netball tournament. They had an amazing start in the first rounds winning all their games with very convincing scores and playing some great netball.

The girls came top of their group so had Horizon to play in the final. This was a really close and exciting game with NAS Dubai winning overall 5-3. Well done to all the girls that played. Cara Gilbert was player of tournament for the NAS Dubai team. Fantastic job!

U10 Boys Football Tournament @ Wellington International School
3rd Place

On Sunday afternoon the NAS Dubai U10 football team played in the Wellington International School (WIS) annual football tournament. Having not played together since before Christmas, this was an opportunity to get the boys together out of season and to just enjoy an afternoon of football.

In our first game, NAS started off slowly and went 2-0 down to the overall winners Regent. However, a goal from Darius Cassia (5C) brought NAS back into the game who were then unlucky not to get an equalizer they probably deserved. The second game was a different story with NAS facing WIS B Team and straight from the start took the game to WIS with some fantastic football, with Harry Robertson (5A) coming off the bench to score a second half hatrick in a memorable 5-1 win. The third game was a tricky encounter against WIS A Team and having kept the momentum going from the second game, NAS saw plenty possession but were unable to convert any chances to draw 0-0 in a tight contest. Our fourth game against Horizon was also an interesting affair. NAS took the game to Horizon and were rewarded for their efforts with two fantastic goals coming from Edward Reynolds (5A) and Darius Cassia (5C). That was until Horizon equalized just before half time and then were awarded a penalty late in the second half to draw 2-2. The final game was against DIA who had won 3 out of 4 games coming into the decider against us, winning it would see them crowned this year’s champions. However, the NAS team had other ideas and battled constantly against a very well organised team. An early goal from Edward Reynolds (5A) and some fantastic work from Conor Air (5A) and Nero Jones (5B) prevented DIA from scoring. The inspirational Yash Gupta (5D) deputizing in goal kept NAS in the lead who were able to hold out to squeeze a win and ensure a positive end to the season for the U10s and a 3rd placed finish.

Coaches Corner – Danny Thomas (NAS U10 Football Coach)
A good end to the season and a great effort from the boys. Having coached the U11s this season, it was my first real opportunity to see the U10 team together. Hopefully I can help them build on this as their coach next year.
Man of the Match – Harry Robertson (5A)

U11A Football Tournament @ WIS
1st Place - Winner 2016

On Thursday afternoon the NAS U11A football team played their final game of the season as they travelled to WIS for their annual football tournament. With NAS missing a number of key players due to injury and travel commitments this was an opportunity for the rest of the squad to enjoy a football fixture out of the regular season and their last game together as a Year 6 team.

In game 1, NAS Dubai played a determined Regent team in a very close first game. As both teams pressed for the winner Nicholas Ghantous (6E) ran through on goal and finished superbly into the bottom corner to give NAS a 1-0 win. In game 2, NAS played GEMS First Point School and found themselves a goal behind early on in the game after a slow start. The team sparked back to life early into the second half and two goals in quick succession from Kai Woodhouse (6B) and an incredible finish from Marc Sherriff (6E) gave NAS a 3-1 lead before a late consolation goal from First Point set up a nervy finish. In game 3, NAS played hosts WIS in a very close game. NAS started the game well and had the majority of possession but were unable to convert any real chances. As the game was heading towards a draw Rayan Elwan (6E) took the ball down the wing and scored an absolute screamer into the top corner with seconds remaining to ensure another 1-0 win for NAS. In game 4, NAS played Hartland School who were looking for their first points of the tournament. Although they were very defensive throughout the game and NAS found it difficult to score, Kai Woodhouse (6B) was able to give NAS the lead from close range and took NAS into their final game against this year’s Dubai football champion DIA, in a winner takes all match. In their final game, NAS faced DIA with both teams winning all 4 group games and DIA narrowly leading on goal difference. In a very tight game NAS changed their tactics and tried their best to deal with the threat of two key players from DIA. A goal early on from Marc Sheriff (6E) gave NAS that all important lead and although DIA threw everything at NAS they were unable to get an equalizer and ensured that NAS were crowned WIS football champions 2016!!!
Man of the Match – Marc Sheriff (6C)
