National Day – NAS Dubai Style

On Tuesday 29th November, our school celebrated this country’s 45th National Day with an exciting line-up of events; offering our children the opportunity to experience the "Spirit of the Union" and reflect on the UAE's solidarity across its culturally diverse community.  Each Year group was assigned a colour of the UAE National flag, which they wore with great pride.

Out on the sports pitch, the children from Early Years through to Year 11, wearing their assigned colour t-shirts, gathered and created the shape of the UAE flag. On the basketball court, we had stands offering henna, calligraphy and food. Throughout the day, Years 1-11 got to sample an array of Arabic delights and came home sporting henna tattoo designs on their hands and arms! The Early Years children got to ice their very own cupcake in the UAE colours, which they then gobbled up in sheer delight.

In the lower Atrium, the children wrote their names in Arabic on a canvas displaying the Dubai skyline, which was created by our talented Head of Art and Design Ms Mackey. Even Mr. Farthing got to write his name in Arabic on the canvas. We also had a display for our much loved falcon for Early Years and KS3/4 out on the sports pitch, whilst the other year groups had a special visit from another falcon to their classrooms.

The highlight of the day had to be the truly amazing performances from our wonderfully talented students in the three shows in the auditorium.  Our KS3/4 orchestra choir sang and played the National Anthem to open the show. Year 3 performed a song called The 7 Emirates, Year 4 - My Beautiful Country, Year 5 - The National Anthem, Year 7 - an Emirati song, Year 7 and 8 - presentations on both Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. Year 9 performed a Flag and Yolla dance and finally a Year 11 boy performed a poem from Sheikh Mohammed’s poetry collection. We concluded each show with a performance from Yolla dancers, who came all the way from Oman. The Year 6 boys even had an opportunity to have a private dancing session where they learnt how to Yolla dance.

Special thanks must go to Mrs. McSweeney, Miss McGillycuddy and Mrs. El Kais for their hard work and dedication to ensuring its success.  Appreciation also goes to the wonderful parents who genreously supported the event making this day extra special. We look forward to our 46th National Day next year!

Message from the Art Department

The Art Department would love to turn your trash into our treasure.

Donations of any of the items listed would be fantastic to build up our
still life ‘Aladdin’s Cave, whereby students can be inspired to choose
objects to draw from real life observation. Any help to stock this closet
would be gratefully received.
