Message from the Principal

Dear all
So…the end of the first term of our second year and it’s been…wonderful.
I have much to say and I could list all of the wonderful things that have gone on but there isn’t room.
What I will say though is a huge ”thank you”.
We have had such incredible help from parents, parents' society members, and of course class reps. They have worked and worked and worked. Cut-out snowmen don’t make themselves, Fayres don’t organize themselves, the coffee shop doesn’t run itself, the stage doesn’t make itself…
It is hard to list all of the areas in which parents contribute directly to our school but their presence in the school is invaluable and welcome.
I would also like to thank the Teachers, Admin, Facilities and Teaching assistants for all their hard work. The school is nothing but a building without them. They work incredibly hard and they also give a great deal of themselves which makes our school a special place. Many of them are parents too.
The pupils, the ones who we do this all for, the ones who make us smile, the ones who also have to work hard...
I cannot thank them enough, all of the above that is!
I have no words good enough to offer so I will just say, “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”
All the very best
Mike Embley

Message from the Head of Primary

Dear Parents,
The last day of term is finally here!  It now seems an incredibly long time since that first day of school back in September.  Along the way we have accomplished many things both academically and socially.  It has been wonderful to see our new students settle in to the school and strengthen their friendships this term, whilst watching established families welcome new families to our community.  NAS Dubai is such a happy school and we certainly know how to celebrate a special occasion!  I’ve really enjoyed the build up to the winter holidays this year!  It feels like we have created some fantastic traditions already, such as the lovely Nursery and Reception singalongs this week. The Christmas tree lighting was a magical event, the Fayre was fabulous – our Parents’ Association are just amazing! This week we also enjoyed watching Nursery teacher Anna-Liisa Robinson’s family receiving a truckload of toys from the lovely people at Dubai 92.  Not only did Anna-Liisa’s family benefit, but the whole of Year 1 received wonderful toys in return for their gorgeous singing around the Christmas tree – it was a magical event.  I’m sure many of you will be braving the crowds at DXB over the next few days – safe travels if you are on the move.  Wherever you are spending the holidays I’d like to wish all of our students, teachers, families and friends a restful, peaceful fortnight.  I look forward to seeing you all in 2016!

Message from the Head of Secondary

Dear all,
I just wanted to take this opportunity to personally thank a number of people and reflect on what has been an amazing term.  When we reflect it is very easy to highlight things we can do better, however, today I wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate the successes we've achieved.
I want to thank the parent body whose support and belief in our system ensures that our children don’t just “succeed” but “exceed”.  It is not only the academic culture you support us in but you help us create a climate and environment where students feel welcome, safe and part of an extended family.  Supporting trips, attending school events or just popping in to say hello help this school flourish.
To our staff; your energy and enthusiasm for what you do is the catalyst for the students’ success. I see smiles in the corridor on a daily basis, at times for us all it is tough but ultimately the students all recognise that in you they have the people who are going to shape their future and people who will go that extra mile.
Finally, and most importantly my students, this is the most rewarding profession because it allows me to work alongside the people who are going to lead future generations.  With 2015 coming to a close, we will all have the chance to reflect on a year of great tragedy and sadness around the world. However, you only have to look at the children of NAS Dubai to recognise the future is in good hands.
Now, after a long term, ensure you get a chance to enjoy each other’s company as tests, coursework, deadlines and trips will all return early 2016.
Be good to each other
Liam Cullinan
Nursery & Reception Sing-Along

Our Nursery and Reception classes delighted their parents with festive concerts this week.  We had snowflakes, Xmas trees, reindeers and many more adorably dressed students singing proudly on the big stage.
SANTA surprises our Nursery & Reception children

A loud bell ringing announced the arrival of Santa (our wonderful Year 3 dad James McCallum) and his little elf to EYFS on Wednesday.  The awe and excitement on the children’s faces as he approached each classroom was really moving. Santa told stories about Rudolph, answered lots of curious questions and left each child with a little treat.

Juilliard- Nord Anglia Performing Arts Curriculum

NAS Dubai is excited to announce that from September 2016 our students will benefit from an enhanced performing arts curriculum.

NAS Dubai will become one of the first schools in the world to benefit from an innovative new collaboration between Nord Anglia Education and The Juilliard School in New York. Our students will follow an embedded performing arts curriculum developed by specialists from Juilliard, along with continued support from, and engagement with, Juilliard alumni and affiliated artists.

The collaboration is designed to enhance our performing arts offering by incorporating a set of teaching resources into our existing curriculum across the school through its innovative structure, design and approach. The enhanced arts curriculum, which focuses first on music, was developed by curriculum and music experts at both Juilliard and Nord Anglia Education. NAS Dubai will also offer drama and dance curriculums over the coming years.

The collaboration with Juilliard will also provide NAS Dubai students with the opportunity to be involved in the annual Summer School programme. The first two-week programme will be held by College du Leman in Switzerland between 9 -22nd July 2016 and will include drama, dance, voice and instrumental tuition. Click here to learn more about the Juilliard Performing Arts Summer School and register your interest.

   Parent Community

Parents' Association

The main mission of our Parents’ Association events is to enhance the wonderful sense of community within our lovely school - we believe the Xmas Fayre did just that.  The PA have been humbled by an incredible amount of wonderful feedback from so many parents, teachers and vendors complementing the tremendous efforts of all our hard working members.   However, what made us the most proud of our volunteers' efforts has been to see the joy on the faces of the children. Starting from the small eager eyes searching the Xmas tree for their home decorated bauble to the tiny hands gripping Lucky Dip jars while running through the Xmas Fayre – this is what makes all the hours of diligence worthwhile.   A big massive heartfelt THANK YOU from us to to you for your generous donations in materials, the hours of dedicated time and of course for participating in, and attending, our PA events.

We would like to especially thank the core team for this event:
Torben Brunbakke for the abundance of carefully made creations and his always energetic management of equipment.

Marie Reddan & Liz Alderson for absolutely always helping in every possible way they can.

Marina Alexandrova for her meticulous attention to detail and organisation.
Donna Limin for the incredibly organised and efficient management of the Grotto, including gifts, elves and Santas!

Julia August for the most articulate communication at any hour needed
Carlos Lemgruber for his varied support for whatever was needed before, during (as Santa…) and after the events.
Sophia Radford & Cindy Godin for designing really adorable decorations and managing a full team of creative volunteers.
Manuela Lotz for endless baking, endless sweets donations and extensive column rolling.
Adam Forsyth and Julia Dreher - our awesome professional parent photographers.
KAFO & JLF Coaches for generously donating their time and expertise in coaching the popular Football Shootout and the Fun Obstacle Course.
The team of Year 10 student volunteers for their enthusiasm and responsible attitude.
Lastly, a huge thanks to our main volunteers for dedicating themselves to the Xmas season PA festivities:
Mark, Kylie, Joelle, Charmaine, Dilanthi, Millie, Izabela, Nadine, Sarah, Kristi, Bernadette, Heather, Reem, Patricia, Monica, Dave (and his 3 super helpful children), Muriel, Ian, May, Toutem, Celeste,  Michaela, Nadia, Layla, Andrea and Barbara.
(Sorry if we missed anyone - your help is always appreciated!)
We hope you have a festive and relaxing holiday break (as we’ll all be back to work on the next PA event soon….)
