Message from the Head of Primary
Dear Parents,
The Primary children have had a wonderful time today enjoying the Chinese New Year celebrations!
It was lovely to hear the Chinese music all the way from the car park this morning and walk in under the special arch. I had fun watching all the children arriving in their Chinese outfits or red clothes - many of them were super-excited, especially the ones wearing outfits identical to mine! It's not every day I match my clothes to a four year olds, but we were definitely all shopping at Dragonmart last weekend...
We always celebrate Chinese New Year in style at NAS Dubai (I can say always now we've got a three year old tradition in place) but I did feel this year our children performed especially well. The secondary students skit was excellent, delivered in very clear Chinese with excellent subtitles for those of us struggling to follow every word...I also loved the bamboo dance but have to admit to a personal bias since my Year 7 son was in it. The Primary children were so confident in their fan dance and horoscope song, it was a true pleasure to watch.
As always, the lions were extremely popular, especially with our youngest children, who had a surprise visit from the lions in their classroom.
If you were in school today I am sure you enjoyed the festive atmosphere and maybe were lucky enough to sample the fantastic food some of the parents had prepared. Thanks to all those parents who contributed to food and decor before, during and after the event and also to our wonderful Mandarin department who worked tirelessly to produce such an enjoyable day for all of us.
Happy New Year of the Rooster!

Message from the Head of Secondary
This week we had the IB team in for their final verification visit. Although we will not know the outcome I can inform you the whole experience was very positive.
The team commented on the warm and welcoming nature of the school and they highlighted the enjoyable experiences they had in classes. In the lessons the inspectors joined, they observed excellent engagement, outstanding questioning as well as a wide range of learning activities.
I am very excited about us becoming a World IB school, having come from an A Level system I recognise the limited choice of subjects I had. I also had a very narrow perspective of the world around me (probably not helped by living on an Island only 9x5 miles). The global curriculum, the range of subject choices as well as the rigour of the IB convince me that the IB is the best curriculum for an ever changing world.
The school is also ever changing - the recent recruitment in the UK has allowed us to continue to grow the secondary with new staff joining us next year in maths, English, science, PE, humanities and languages. We will also look at growing further leadership roles with the Head of PE role being advertised in coming weeks.
We welcome the KHDA in next week, thank you to those parents who have taken the time to reply to the survey. I am looking forward to their visit and their feedback on the effectiveness of the education we offer here at NAS Dubai.

“I had my name written in Chinese, it was amazing!”
“I was so proud to be on stage!”
“I thought the riddle corner was the best: it was fun and I won a fortune cookie!”
Parents' quotes included:
“I was amazed by the number of students involved in the event.”
“My child was thrilled to be part of the show! What a great performance!”
“The level of mandarin of the students doing the sketch was impressive and it was fun!” (Native Mandarin parents)
The success of today’s event would have not been possible without the support of all the people involved. A sincere thank you goes to the commitment of our Mandarin students, the enthusiasm of the Mandarin parents community, the PA and the Chatter Box parents, the dedication of the group of artists of the temple door and the efficiency of the IT and Maintenance team.
