Message from the Head of Primary

Dear Parents,
What a wonderful end to the term it has been! I seem to have spent a lot of time recently in the Auditorium, watching some amazing performances. At the end of last week, I enjoyed watching our very youngest children singing their hearts out at the Nursery Christmas singalong. It’s incredible to think that those children have only been in school one term, yet they performed on our huge stage with such confidence! Similarly, our Reception classes were completely awesome on Monday, with some great singing and dancing skills in evidence. I love being able to spend time with our Early Years children at this time of year, their excitement is so infectious!
On Tuesday the entertainment was provided by Year 4, in the form of a Pantomime entitled ‘I’m in a Fairy Tale, Get Me Out of Here’. Each class contributed a scene, complete with witty script and in many cases, a song & dance routine. In true panto style, the audience enjoyed joining in with the traditional ‘He’s behind you’. We all really enjoyed the children’s interpretations of their teachers. ‘Miss Wright’ went everywhere on her bike and ‘Miss Hay’ had a very convincing Scottish accent. Mr Barrett was just as mischievous on stage as he is in real life (well, maybe he is a little better behaved in real life) and Mrs Lamb was entirely convincing, sporting shoes that look suspiciously like she borrowed them straight from my closet…
For those of you celebrating, I wish you a Happy Christmas and to all our families, I wish you a joyous, peaceful Winter Holiday. I hope that you get to spend quality time relaxing with your family and friends. I look forward to seeing you all back on January 2nd, for a new year and a new term.
Best Wishes,

Elizabeth Lamb
Message from the Head of Secondary

In today’s assembly we celebrated the achievements of our students and their attitude to learning.  With the right attitude and high expectations there is nothing the students of NAS Dubai cannot achieve, whether in academia, on the sports field or performing on stage.
2017 promises to be an exciting year as we introduce our IB curriculum, welcome our KHDA inspection and have our first full set of IGCSE results.

To all those families that are leaving Dubai for good I want to thank you, the hardest thing about international education is saying goodbye to members of our amazing community.  I wish you well and please continue to update us on your journey.  You are always part of ‘Team NAS.’

Finally I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy holiday and enjoy your family time.

Year 4 Panto
I'm in a Fairytale, get me out of here!

Over the past 4 weeks, Year 4 have been on a journey of panto madness! The show was based around a UK TV programme entitled ‘I’m a celebrity, get me out of here!’ Each class performed a scene from a different fairytale: Rapunzel, Hansel and Gretel, Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and Snow White.

With just 10 days to put the whole show together, it was amazing to see the children rise to the challenge and take on the responsibility of different roles, with some children really flourishing given this opportunity. They were able to showcase many skills including acting, dancing and singing, and it was clear to see the children’s enjoyment of performing as a year group of 120.

It was a great experience for the children to build confidence, self-esteem and team work, and most of all, it was great fun!

A huge well done to all of the children, and thank you to parents and carers for their support during the production.

NAS Dubai @ Tough Mudder

Well done to our fantastic staff that took part in last weekend’s Du Tough Mudder at the Hamdan Sports Complex.
The race described as the toughest on the planet, saw staff take on a variety of obstacles and challenges as they made their way through the 8km (Half mudder) or 16km (Full mudder) courses.
Mr. Woodall (Year 1 Teacher) thoroughly enjoyed the event and said his favourite challenge by far was the Ice Enigma, where he went into a bath of ice cold water that gave him the shock of his life.
A fantastic effort from the staff who were part of TEAM NAS!

Parents' Association

We hope that everyone has enjoyed the PA Xmas festivities! It started with our magnificent Xmas tree featuring all the beautifully created baubles our talented students made and then continued on to the joy filled annual Xmas Fayre. This could not have been achieved without the dedication, passion and the community spirit of our fabulous PA volunteers who worked so hard from early mornings till late at night and over weekends just for our NAS Dubai family’s enjoyment.
A MASSIVE THANK YOU to all the volunteers that supported and assisted in making this a truly memorable event.  Special thanks must go to the lead volunteers listed below:
Torben – builder, mover, planner of practically everything
Sophia & Cindy – creative visionaries and managers of all things decorative
Liz & Marie – for never ever taking a break from helping in every area
Marina – for counting and cutting and cutting and counting endlessly
Nadine - amongst other wonderful things; gingerbread baker supreme
Brent - for meticulous grotto management and so very much more

We will definitely enjoy the long break and hope you all do too!
