Wellness is “an active process of becoming aware of and making choices towards the pursuit of health.”  The World Health Organization’s definition: “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

The (4) Pathways to Wellness 
Mental Health America suggests four pathways to wellness:
1. Healthy diet
2. Regular exercise
3. Enough sleep
4. Relaxation

In his seminal work, Pyramids of Power! An Ancient African Centered Approach to Optimal Health, John T. Chissell, M.D. writes, “Optimal health is the best possible emotional, intellectual, physical, spiritual, and socio-economic aliveness that we can attain.  “ …optimal health [is] a continuing process or journey, rather than a destination or end point.”
Wellness Fact:
A report by the World Economic Forum estimates the global cost of mental illness is nearly $2.5 trillion and growing.
Wellness Tip:
Denial is not a healing strategy.
