Pentecost Sunday
Scripture: Acts 2:1-13

This Sunday, May 15, will be one of the most special worship services of the year for Blakemore. Not only is it Pentecost Sunday, in which we remember and celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2:1-13, but it is also Confirmation Sunday. We are excited to confirm in the Christian faith four young men who have spent this past school year learning what it means to be a United Methodist and, more importantly, what it means to follow Jesus Christ. You are invited to bring notes and cards of encouragement to share with the confirmands. We hope you'll make plans to join us on this joyous day!

Making Disciples: Invite, Pray, Love

This past Sunday, we were reminded of Jesus’ Great Commission: to go and make disciples. The United Methodist Church has even adopted this as the focus of its mission statement. The very purpose of a church is to make disciples, yet we often have difficulty even knowing what that means. At the end of our worship service, I challenged us to invite someone, to pray for someone, and to love someone.

These, I think, can be expressions of what it looks like for us to make disciples. Invite someone you know to something that can help connect them to God or Christian community. It might be worship, our upcoming Game Night on May 25, a small group experience, a service project, or any number of other possibilities. Pray for someone who you know needs an extra measure of God’s grace. And don’t just pray once, but pray daily for this person and see what difference it makes. Finally, love someone. Show them extra kindness, compassion, and patience; serve them in an unexpected way; or simply pay attention to someone you might otherwise overlook.

Over the next month or so, let’s find ways to share about our “Invite, Pray, Love” experiences. I’m excited to see and hear how God will work through our willingness to make disciples.

Grace and peace,
John Hill

Notice to those scheduling Fellowship Hall:
Conflicts have arisen due to the double-booking of the Fellowship Hall.  To avoid these conflicts a reservation form MUST be filled out, clearly indicating date (day, month, year), hours, number expected to attend, your name and phone number. Find Reservation Forms in the front office and return completed forms inTrustees box.  DO NOT MARK DATE IN THE EVENT BOOK!  Trustee, Cavit Cheshier, will do that and notify you if your requested date is unavailable.
As you enter the Fellowship Hall, Look Down-not Up! The entire floor has been stripped, waxed, and buffed. This gift is from the Nearly New Store funds and was badly needed. We thank all the tireless workers who keep the store open three days a week. It is a great ministry to the homeless who come for clean clothes and to others who shop for clothes at a reasonable price.
