Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost
Scripture: Genesis 18: 22-33

We are in the middle of a sermon series called #WeAreBlakemore in which we take a six weeks look at the core values to which we believe God is calling us to aspire and live. This Sunday, September 25, we'll look more closely at our third value statement: "We value a good conversation...and the many thoughtful opinions about how to walk a faithful journey." As we seek to embody this value, we will spend a large portion of the worship service in the Fellowship Hall having discussions around the tables and serving one another Holy Communion. Please join us this Sunday at 10:30 am!

We are pleased to announce the three recipients of scholarships from Blakemore this year. The following well-deserving students are each awarded a $1000 scholarship from the Dorothy Knowles and/or Guy & Margaret Smith Scholarship Fund:
Yiwen Bi (Vanderbilt Divinity School)
Asia Kabiling (Nashville State Community College)
Isobelle Kabiling (Lipscomb University)
Be sure to congratulate these young adults and encourage them in their studies!

We extend a warm Blakemore "welcome" to our newest members who joined the church September 10, 2016!:

The September version of the Chickenfoot Domino Open was contested on Sunday. We had the feeling there was someone watching over us as we played (Thanks, George!). Fittingly, Rene Bass claimed the Top Dog trophy for the 4th time. Lanette O'Brien begrudgingly handed over the dog. We had a new player, Ron Overfield, and a couple of interested observers. The next Open will be on Sunday, October 9. Watch for more details. Contact Cindy Kleinrock (cindodger@comcast.net) or Kathy Jackson (sassykat89@gmail.com) if you want to be included. Current members will automatically get an invite!

Reservation forms are available in the church office and should be submitted by Wednesday, September 21, to guarantee room availability.  For more information, contact Deanna.McCulley@gmail.com or DMCCulley@equitableco.com.

Boomerstock is the first comprehensive study of how the church can engage Baby Boomers, whose numbers will double the number of people over 60 years of age in the next 20 years. This generation will change aging as we know it. The event will gather wide sources of information about who Baby Boomers are and what they are like from the vantage point of the fields of sociology, psychology, spirituality, marketing, retirement services, and activism. Boomerstock will give you the tools and insight to understand the dynamic change that Boomers will make as they age, a change that will affect us all.

Blakemore's existence depends upon many volunteers.  We are compiling an up-to-date list of those volunteers. Review the list below and submit any corrections, additions or deletions to the church office. You may also volunteer for any of these areas in the same way. This updated list is posted outside the church office as well. Thanks to everyone who has or will volunteer to help in these important responsibilities.     Cavit Cheshier
