Trinity Sunday
Scripture: Daniel 1:1-17

This Sunday, we will begin a new sermon series entitled "Being Church" that will take us through the summer months. Kevin Walker, our Children's Ministry Coordinator, will preach this Sunday from Daniel 1:1-17. He will explore one part of what it means for Blakemore to be church: nurturing children. We hope you will make plans to join us this Sunday at 10:30 am.
This Sunday, May 22, 2016.
Gifts on Peace with Justice Sunday fund programs that advocate for peace and justice in the United States and around the world.  These programs empower United Methodists to speak out for removing structures and systems that harm God's children globally.  Half of monies collected stays here in the Tennessee Conference to fund ministries like Gallatin Cares, Tennessee Justice for our Neighbors, and Open Table Nashville.  The other half goes to toward Peace with Justice ministries of the General Board Committee on Church and Society.  Donation envelopes will be included in Sunday's worship bulletin.  Please give generously.

Making Disciples: Invite, Pray, Love

The United Methodist Church has adopted  Jesus’ Great Commission to "go and make disciples" as the focus of its mission statement. The very purpose of a church is to make disciples, yet we often have difficulty knowing what that means. I challenge us to invite someone, to pray for someone, and to love someone.

These, I think, can be expressions of what it looks like for us to make disciples. Invite someone you know to something that can help connect them to God or Christian community. It might be worship, our upcoming Game Night on May 25, a small group experience, a service project, or any number of other possibilities. Pray for someone who you know needs an extra measure of God’s grace. And don’t just pray once, but pray daily for this person and see what difference it makes. Finally, love someone. Show them extra kindness, compassion, and patience; serve them in an unexpected way; or simply pay attention to someone you might otherwise overlook.

Over the next month or so, let’s find ways to share about our “Invite, Pray, Love” experiences. I’m excited to see and hear how God will work through our willingness to make disciples.

Grace and peace,
John Hill

Hey friends,
I will be preaching at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution on Sunday, May 29, at 8:00 am. If you have ever been curious about prison ministry, I'd love for you to join me. I think there are spots for 4 more people, but I have to know by this coming weekend. I will need your name as it appears on your driver's license and your birthday. There are restrictions about what you can wear and do, and I'll communicate those to anyone interested in going. Let me know!

Plan to attend our next "Saying Grace" Potluck lunch this Sunday, May 22, immediately after 10:30 am worship.  The church will provide meat and drinks and we ask church members to bring sides, casseroles, salads, desserts, etc. to complete our meal.  After lunch we will hear the latest progress report from our Leadership Board.

Notice to those scheduling Fellowship Hall:
Conflicts have arisen due to the double-booking of the Fellowship Hall.  To avoid these conflicts a reservation form MUST be filled out, clearly indicating date (day, month, year), hours, number expected to attend, your name and phone number. Find Reservation Forms in the front office and return completed forms inTrustees box.  DO NOT MARK DATE IN THE EVENT BOOK!  Trustee, Cavit Cheshier, will do that and notify you if your requested date is unavailable.
As you enter the Fellowship Hall, Look Down-not Up! The entire floor has been stripped, waxed, and buffed. This gift is from the Nearly New Store funds and was badly needed. We thank all the tireless workers who keep the store open three days a week. It is a great ministry to the homeless who come for clean clothes and to others who shop for clothes at a reasonable price.
