Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany
Scripture: Matthew 5:13-20

This Sunday, February 5, we continue our new sermon series called "But I Say...Jesus' Difficult Teachings from the Sermon on the Mount." We'll take an extended look at the largest block of Jesus' teachings from the Gospels in Matthew 5-7. This Sunday, we'll look at Matthew 5:13-20, which invites us, "Let Your Light Shine."  We hope you'll join us this Sunday at 10:30 am.
For the next two weeks, Pastor John will lead the adult program at Wednesday Night Life in Room 204 at 6:30. We will use a Bible Study from the Converge series entitled Kingdom Building. Here are the topics for  the next  two weeks:
February 1 - "With Those I Despise" (Luke 7:36-50)
February 8 - "Through Community" (Acts 4:23-37)

5:30 pm Dinner 6:30 pm programs
Cost of the meal $5 for adults $2.50 for kids under 12. 
Menu: Subway sandwiches, chips, cookies and fruit.

Use the tear-off portion of Sunday's bulletin or call the church office by Tuesday to make reservations for dinner.
Blakemore Bridge Bash
February 25, 2017
Tickets are $20 each which includes lunch, and you can play any kind of card or board game you like! 
We need white elephant gifts to be dropped off in fellowship hall and help with setting up tables, clean up and taking down tables.  For more information or for tickets, contact Marge Rajotte
Our next Saving Grace Potluck lunch is Sunday, February 12, at 11:45 am in Fellowship Hall.  The church will provide meat and beverages, and we invite the congregation to bring side dishes and desserts to share.  We will receive an update from our Leadership Board

Mar. 31-Apr. 2, 2017 - Men's Retreat at Beersheba Assembly
The Double Nickel outing for February 16, an "Authentic Tour of Historic Black Nashville", is now full.  There will be 18 from Blakemore UMC and 7 from Clark Memorial UMC.  Please be at Blakemore no later than 8:40 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16.  A bus will pick us up for the 2 1/2 hour tour and then we will have lunch at Swett's.  Back to the church about 1 or 1:30.  
The Franky Chickenfoot Domino Open resumed in January. Fourteen players gathered at Rene Bass's home for several rousing games. We had the youngest winner in the history of the Open, with Evan Boling taking home the Top Dog trophy. Everyone was thrilled with Evan's victory. Our next game is set for February 12 at the home of Doris Fawcett. We will begin at 1:45, so there should not be a conflict with the Saving Grace pot luck. Games will end promptly at 3:30. Wesleyan Heritage Tour
October 16-21, 2017

Ready to change your use of nicotine, regardless of the delivery method you use?  Drop into Nashville’s only Nicotine Anonymous meeting Thursday evenings, 6-7 PM, at Blakemore UMC.  Nicotine Anonymous® is a Twelve-Step fellowship of men and women helping each other to live life free of nicotine. Room In the Inn at Blakemore
It's time to prepare for our guests from Room In the Inn. Blakemore will host eight female guests on the 4th Sunday of each month, December-March. The remaining dates are as follows:

Please contact Kristi Walker ( if you are able to drive, help with set up, provide a meal, spend the night, provide take along breakfast items and/or sack lunches, wash bedding and towels, spend time with our guests, or help with clean up.
Frozen Assets Still Available--We have a limited surplus of Frozen Assets foods available for purchase:
Chicken Enchilada Casserole, Corn Casserole, Cranberry Meatballs, Frozen Cranberry Salad, Ham and Cheese Quiche, Ham Rolls, Italian Herb Bread, Jalapeno Bread, Sausage Egg Casserole and Southwest Chicken Soup.
There are 5 or less of Ham and Cheese Quiche and Jalepeno Bread. Help us get these items off the list!
