Third Sunday of Advent
Scripture: Luke1:26-45

This Sunday, December 11, is the third Sunday of Advent, the season in which the church anticipates the arrival of Christ and prepares for Christmas. During this time, our sermon series is called "The Characters of Christmas." Each week we are examining a different character from the stories of Jesus' birth. This week we'll look at Mary, the mother of Jesus, and the awesome responsibility that was entrusted to her by God through the angel Gabriel in Luke 1:26-45. We hope you'll join us this Sunday at 10:30 am.

The Leadership Board of Blakemore UMC is prayerfully considering adopting this "Statement of Inclusion" for our church. If adopted, it would be included on our website, brochures, and bulletins. If you have any feedback, you are welcome to speak with Pastor John, Board Chair Ellen Zinkiewicz, or any member of the Leadership Board.

We believe that Jesus’ message of unconditional love means that every human being is a child of God and is worthy of love, respect, and inclusion.  We welcome everyone into the full life and ministry of our community.  We embrace persons of every race, ethnicity, culture, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, family status, faith history, physical or mental ability, education, political perspective, and socio economic and housing circumstance.  We stand against discrimination and exclusion.  We worship and serve with all people through love, acceptance, and reconciliation in every part of our lives together.

Support for Hispanic Congregations
Our two United Methodist Hispanic congregations in the Nashville District recently sent out a letter asking for support from their sister churches. Many of their members are afraid that a new administration will bring deportation and a legitimizing of bullying and persecution.
You can read the letter here. Blakemore's Leadership Board agreed unanimously to stand in support and solidarity with our Hispanic brothers and sisters.
