Seventh Sunday after the Epiphany
Scripture: Matthew 6:19-34

This Sunday, February 26, will be the last Sunday of our sermon series called "But I Say...Jesus' Difficult Teachings from the Sermon on the Mount." We'll be looking at Matthew 6:19-34 and the theme "Store Up Treasures in Heaven." We'll conclude our series during our Ash Wednesday service on March 1 at 6:30 pm when we examine Jesus' teaching on prayer in Matthew 6:1-18 in which Jesus tells us, "Pray in This Way." We hope you'll join us this Sunday at 10:30 am and next Wednesday, March 1, as we finish up our exploration of Jesus' largest block of recorded teaching.

Lent begins on March 1,  2017 with Ash Wednesday. During this season of reflection, repentance and preparation for Easter, we will explore the theme "Interruptions" using the book of the same name by Jacob Armstrong. This will serve as our Lenten sermon series theme, and Jacob will speak to us for our Wednesday evening program on March 29. The book contains 40 daily devotionals that you are invited to read during this season. The books are available in the church office for $8 each.

Like last year, we hope to have several in-home small groups to talk about the book and share our own experiences and ideas in community. Groups will begin the first week of March and meet for six weeks. If you are interested in being part of a group, please sign-up in the church office or fill out this simple
online survey.
Blakemore Bridge Bash
February 25, 2017
Tickets are $20 each which includes lunch, and you can play any kind of card or board game you like!
We need white elephant gifts to be dropped off in fellowship hall and help with setting up tables, clean up and taking down tables.  For more information or for tickets, contact Marge Rajotte designermarge@bellsouth.net.

As always the Bash also features a BAKE SALE and the freezer in the freezer room is now receiving baked items! A reminder to all who have promised items:  have them available Friday afternoon by 4:00 , Feb 24 or VERY early Sat. morning. Please do not offer anything that need to be kept refrigerated.

Parents,
Historically, before Ash Wednesday and the solemnness of Lent (when Christians would fast), Christians would have a giant party to eat all of the sugar in their homes...hence the day before Ash Wednesday came to be known as Fat Tuesday. On February 28 at 6:00 pm all More Kids families are invited to the Blakemore UMC fellowship hall to enjoy a Fat Tuesday Pretzel Party! We will eat pancakes for dinner (with all kinds of wonderful, fun toppings!), make pretzels (which are a reminder to pray), and enjoy games and fun together. More information will come later but I wanted to ask you to put this on your calendars now and plan to attend!

Happy Mardi Gras!!
