Twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost
Scripture: Ephesians 2:1-10

This Sunday, October 9, will be the final in our sermon series called #WeAreBlakemore in which we are taking six weeks to look at the five core values to which we believe God is calling us to aspire and live as a church. Our scripture passage for the day will be Ephesians 2:1-10 as we look at our fifth value statement: "We value life...as forgiven and reconciled people in God's grace." We hope you'll make plans to join us this Sunday at 10:30 am!

A pictorial directory is a powerful tool for our church to help all of us connect faces with names to become a stronger community for God. Sign up on Sunday morning or by contacting the church office today to have your portrait made. Every family that participates will receive a directory and an 8x10 copy of their pose.  Picture dates are Nov 4 & 5.
Trunk or Treat
Blakemore's annual tradition of fall fun returns on Wednesday, October 26, from 6:30-7:30 pm! At Trunk or Treat decorated cars fill the parking lot on the West End side of the church and children of all ages travel from car to car for games, fun, and, of course, candy.  An impartial panel of judges will give awards for Best Decorated Car and Most Uniquely Decorated Car! Additionally, there will be cookie decorating and other fun activities for kids. If you would like to bring your car and participate, please email Kevin Walker at kevin@blakemoreumc.org. Also, be sure to invite family and friends to this great outreach event!
You may drop off any contributions in the Community Care Fellowship barrel in Fellowship Hall. CCF is in need of the following items:
  • Black 55-gallon trashbags
  • Multi Vitamins
  • Allergy Pills
  • Calamine Lotion
  • Neosporin
  • Men's Underwear:  Small, Medium, 2X and 3X  (Briefs and Boxers)
  • Men's T-Shirts:  all sizes
CCF is also having their annual fundraising dinner, "Everyone Rises," on Thursday, November 10, at 6:30 pm at Woodmont Christian Church. Visit the CCF website for more details.

Neither reading the book nor attending each week is required but will enrich your experience.

TAKE CHURCH TO WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE
  • Do you regularly invite people to attend church, but they rarely come?
  • Do you worry that your congregation isn’t connected to your neighborhood?
  • Do you want to empower people to live missionally in their day-to-day lives?
  • Are you passionate about living the gospel in your neighborhood?
  • Would you like to make a real connection with new people?
If you can say “yes” to any of those questions, then the Fresh Expressions Movement is exactly what you’ve been looking for!

Future Shock is a one-day conference on October 24 from 10:00 to 4:00, sponsored by the Belmont Institute for Innovative Faith-Based Leadership, designed to expose church leaders to the trends, shifts, and challenges that are occurring in church life across America. Who are the ‘Dones’ and why have they left the church? Why are millennials not connecting to organized religion? Why are mainline denominations losing numbers and significance? How to best reach the ‘unchurched’?  Future Shock will provide tools of discovery so that church leaders can understand the trends, both in culture and in church life, in order to create more effective ways of matching need with ministry initiatives. Cost is $75. Click here for more information and to register.
