The 2016 calendars for Mugs & Hugs and Altar Flowers are now posted on the board outside the church office.  Reserve your "special" Sundays now or perhaps make 2016 your first year to sign up.  Remember, non-floral altar arrangements that reflect Sundays' messages are welcome and encouraged. Mugs & Hugs need be neither elaborate nor expensive but instead inviting for members and visitors alike to linger after services for fellowship.  We have immediate need for volunteers in late January and all of February. See the sign-up sheets for open dates.

Wednesday Night Life Update:  We resume dinner and programs on Jan 13, 2016 with our  FREE Community Meal & Game Night, catered by Bill & Judy Holland!

Check your schedule in the weeks to come and be proactive by contacting one of the Dinner Belles (Patty Tippens, Lanette O'Brien or Beth Holzemer) before they contact you!  Important things to remember:
The church covers meal costs.
No time to cook?  Arrange for delivery (pizza, deli sandwiches, BBQ, etc.)
Or...You can shop and we'll chop!
No time to shop?  Tell the Belles what you need and we'll have it ready.
Can't stay to serve dinner? The Belles has you covered.

So be ready with your "YES" when the Belles comes calling!
An Epiphany Project: we are soliciting toiletry items for
West End Middle School.
Middle School is an awkward age when young people experience changes in their bodies that require changes in self-care.  Sometimes teachers and other adults become aware of these changed needs before the young people themselves and are often called on to have hard conversations.  These conversations become harder when adults know that the young person's family may not have the financial resources to buy these supplies.  The toiletries that we collect will make it easier for adults to help students meet the changing needs of their bodies.  Our bodies are a gift from God, what we collect will make it easier for young people to address the changes that growing-up bring without embarrassment.
Please consider contributing the following: Toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant for girls and boys, lotion, feminine hygiene products.
Leave you donations in the barrel in the Fellowship Hall.
Blakemore's 2016 Leadership Board met recently to begin our work together by looking at what we value as a congregation. Here is what we came up with:
  • We value you, just the way you are.
  • We value kids, even when they aren’t quiet and don’t sit still.
  • We value our neighbors, from West End to Uganda.
  • We value a good conversation and the many thoughtful opinions about how to walk a faithful journey
  • We live as forgiven and reconciled people in God's grace
So, what do we look like when we are living as a congregation in these values?  We are planning a larger conversation on this topic during our first “Saying Grace” potluck on the 24th of January (save the date!) after church.  We hope to have these lunches every other month as a way to share from the Leadership Board and to hear from the congregation.  In addition, the full minutes of the Board will be available in the newsletter and on the website.
If you have questions about the new leadership structure, these values, lunch, or anything happening at church, I invite you to seek out me, John, or any other member of the Board.  We are trying something new, and feedback from the congregation is critical to making NEW happen.
