In the Studio....
Right now there are two projects under the needle in the studio, The first is top secret since it's a gift, but this  Asian fabric lone star center in the colors of the 18th century famille rose Chinese porcelain I love which was begun in a class with Jan Krentz last October is finished and just needs to be extended as a new quilt for our bed. I'm adding borders - one of which is a paper pieced block. I've finished 65 of them so far.
Spring bouquet
Spring in LA
It's definitely spring in Southern California. Roses, freesias are coming into  bloom and our Lavender Lady lilac is in full flower. It's a hybrid from the Huntington Gallery garden which is one of the only that will bloom in our climate. She smells lovely, too.

Finished quilts, large and small as well as greeting cards of some of my work are available from
my shop on Etsy.com
Sally Gould Wright Slideshow video
I recently updated the slideshow of work from my studio.... enjoy!

Japan.....
I wrote last time that I was looking forward to a textile oriented trip to Japan with Susan Ball Faeder and her  Quilters Express to Japan tour. It's now the almost the beginning of April and I am still basking in the beauty of those two weeks. The Tokyo Quilt Show - what an experience! - the stencil and shibori dyeing workshops, the fabric shopping opportunities, the museums, the temples and lovely gardens even in January, and most of all the kindness and generosity of the Japanese people are memories that will stay with me. I look forward to sharing more of this trip with you in the future.

Heian Shrine Garden, Kyoto
Recent Work....
As soon as I returned from Japan I had to get some of those memories into a quilt - Here is a view of a stone footbridge in the Heian Shinto Shrine in Kyoto. No flowers or trees in bloom in mid January, but the beautiful bones of the garden plan and architecture shone. I used a fused raw edge appliqué technique with textile paint.

I also couldn't wait to take an indigo resist dyed banner of the Moon Rabbit I purchased in a craft shop in Tokyo and mount him as a bit of Easter decor for our home. A little duping silk and squares of Japanese Indigo fabrics complete it.
