GBF Website Has a New Look
The GBF website has undergone a transformation to update information on the Foundation’s projects and to achieve a cleaner, more modern design. Among its new features, the website now includes an overview of Integrated Youth Services (including a map) and a dynamic timeline of GBF’s undertakings since the Foundation was created. We invite you to take a look.

We organized the new website to highlight GBF’s two major areas of activity: Transforming Mental Health Services and Fostering Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange
Within the section on transforming mental health services, you will find information about the rapid development of Integrated Youth Services across the country with the support of GBF. The section about how we foster collaboration and knowledge exchange shows GBF’s leading role in founding and nurturing the International Alliance of Mental Health Research Funders, a group which includes major government and private research funders. This part of the website also features other collaborations, both internationally and in Canada.
Job Opportunity: Program Manager, Youth Mental Health
We are looking for an organized, dynamic person to join the GBF team as Program Manager, Pan-Canadian Youth Mental Health. This new position will report to the Vice President, Youth Mental Health. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to provide leadership and help advance the Foundation’s objectives of improving access to quality, culturally appropriate mental health, addiction and related services for youth. The job posting can be found here. Please share it widely. The deadline to apply is Dec. 2, 2019 at 5 PM EST.
Submit Nominations for the 2020 Sam Lal Award
GBF is now accepting nominations for the 2020 Dr. Samarthji Lal Award. Dr. Lal was a distinguished psychiatric researcher and this award is given each year to honour his legacy. The award recognizes a researcher working in a Canadian institution in the field of mental health who is making an outstanding contribution to the field and demonstrates both scientific excellence and creative thinking. This year will mark the 10th anniversary of the award.

In order to be eligible, a researcher must be affiliated with a Canadian academic or clinical institution and be in the mid-stage of their career (7-15 years from their initial appointment) – under exceptional circumstances, the committee may consider a nominee outside this limit. Each candidate must be nominated by a colleague or mentor who is familiar with their work. The main submission requirements are a curriculum vitae, two letters of support and a brief description of how the candidate is making an outstanding contribution to mental health research.

Award amount: $25 000 (CAD)
Deadline for nominations: January 23, 2020

GBF would like to thank the communications partners for the Sam Lal Award: The Canadian Institutes for Health Research – Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction, the Canadian College of Neuropsychopharmacology, the Canadian Association for Neuroscience, and the Canadian Psychological Association.
