Our band of volunteers has been busy. We have formed an interim steering group, built a website and organised some branding. Up to now, everything has been volunteer-led, but we are now working hard on our "Getting Started" application which will release some enabling funding. This should pay for room hire, publicity materials, facilitation and admin costs to spread the word about Big Local and gather as many views as we can. Local charity CREST have kindly agreed to be the Local Trusted Organisation which is a condition of "Getting Started". We are aiming to complete the consulation/visioning by June 2014 and submit the Action Plan by the end of 2014.
See our website for more information and how you can get involved.
Walthamstow Market Event
The weather was kind for our first consultation and visioning event on Saturday 21st September 2013, when about 100 ideas were pinned to Mo's "Washing Line of Wishes", outside the Windmill Restaurant at 18 High Street. Many more people took business cards and leaflets for details of our website and online survey, as well as swelling our mailing list contacts. Thanks to everyone who took part and sorry to those who missed us - see some of the images collected on the day here.
Have your say!
St James Big Local is delighted to announce the launch of our online survey. Follow this link to the survey and have your say about how to spend the £1m allocated to the St James Street area. The money can be used for almost anything that will make the area an even better place to live, for example training and employment schemes, new community facilities etc. It cannot be used for projects normally funded by the government, e.g. repairing potholes etc. The cash should also be spent within the Big Local area, unless direct benefit to the mapped area can be demonstrated. In order for Big Local to be a success we need to collect positive ideas and solutions - so make sure you have your say. If you don't give us your ideas, then someone else will!
Our group would like to deliver a paper newsletter to every house within the St James Street mapped area but so far we only have about 15 active volunteers - so we will need some help! Would you like to get involved and meet new people? Could you help with a few deliveries? If so, click here to sign up!
We are also looking for volunteers to help with IT, admin, event planning, data entry, newsletter production, marketing and communications. If you have any experience (or want to get some!) do get in touch by sending us a message through the website here.
Do you have a group that would want to host or attend a meeting? Or do you have an idea for a consultation event? Send us a message here.
