Job Applications Now Open -
St James Big Local is looking for a Community Worker!

Applications are now open for the community worker post which is an essential part of making the St James Street Big Local Process a success.  Click here for a copy of the job description. We are offering a part time position with flexible hours over 6-9 months on a self employed basis. Please return a CV and supporting statement as described in the job description (no more than 4 sides of A4 in total) by 23.59hrs on Sunday 16th March. Follow this link to our online survey and have your say about how to spend the £1m allocated to the St James Street area over the next 10 years. The money can be used for almost anything that will make the area an even better place to live, for example training and employment schemes, new community facilities etc. It cannot be used for projects normally funded by the government, e.g. repairing potholes etc. In order for Big Local to be a success we need to collect positive ideas and solutions. Over 140 people have already had their say so make sure you make your views known - if you don't give us your ideas, then someone else will!

The Getting Started Application

There have been a few delays, but Local Trust finally approved our Getting Started Application back in December and funds are now on their way to CREST as our Local Trusted Organisation. "Getting Started" is the name for the consultation period before our area can access the £1m. Local Trust provide up to £20,000 of funding for the Getting Started consultation/visioning events and activities to make sure that we can speak to as many local people as possible. We are aiming to run lots of activities between March & August 2014 so that we can draw local views into an "Outline Community Vision" at the end of the summer. After that a further £2000 of funding will be available to help us refine and prioritise the collected ideas into the 10 Year Action Plan. We will be aiming to submit the Action Plan by the end of 2014, so that funds from the £1m can be drawn down from 2015. If you want to get involved with hosting and running events this year, or have a community group that you think we should speak to, then do get in touch!
 

How can you help?

Our group have 4000 paper newsletters waiting to be delivered to every house within the St James Street mapped area but we are struggling to find a distribution company to help. Do you know anyone that can help? If we can't find someone we will need some volunteers to help. Would you like to get involved and meet new people? Could you help with a few deliveries? If so, click here to sign up!

We are also looking for volunteers to help with IT, film making, admin, event planning, data entry, newsletter production, human resources and finance/accounting. If you have any experience (or want to get some!) do get in touch by sending us a message through the website here.
