P&Cs need to know...

Look ahead to your AGM

OK, no one really wants to do that right now, but a quick glance into the future will save you hassles next year and help you comply with government regulations. Start thinking about:
  • Your AGM date - most P&C Annual General Meetings are held in Term 1, but because you need to send out notice of the meeting it's best to set the date before the end of this year (check your constitution for the amount of notice needed). The AGM is an important event, but needn't be daunting - find out more here.
  • Preparing your finances to be looked over by a reviewer/auditor. After December 31, treasurers will need to finalise the books, prepare a report, and take them to a reviewer who can sign them off. This must be completed at least two weeks before the AGM. Right now, it's a good idea to line up your auditor/reviewer and start to get things organised. We have comprehensive information about the audit/review process, templates and instructions for creating your report, and a checklist of things to start gathering together - all on our Annual Review web page.

Grants still to give

The ACT Government's Parent Engagement Grants for P&Cs are still open! They will not close until all funding has been allocated so there is still a chance to apply!

Understanding school transitions

Calling all parents and carers of kids who started preschool or kindergarten in 2019 or 2020! Council invites feedback on your experiences of the first year of school (preschool or kindergarten) particularly the transition process. This qualitative study will provide data to inform school communities about experiences of educational change and the potential to increase support for children and families transitioning to school in the ACT. Register here to provide feedback.

Raise funds by recycling drink containers

Now might be a great time of year to cash in on your community's use of drink containers eligible for the ACT Container Deposit Scheme. The P&C or school can create an online account with Return-It. You will receive a ten-digit number which you can share with your community to use when they drop off their containers and the funds flow to you! Find out more.

Return-It has also recently introduced a free trailer and bin hire program to help you collect large numbers of containers at events so you can receive the 10c per container while encouraging recycling.

NAPLAN parent webinar... pass it on

Please let parents at your school know about this free webinar where your questions on NAPLAN and the MySchool website will be answered. Our National parent body - ACSSO - has partnered with ACARA (who run NAPLAN) to create the webinar on Wednesday December 2 at 7:30pm. Register now.
How do NAPLAN results help my child? What do the results tell me? How do schools use NAPLAN? When is online testing happening? Will schools be ready? How do I support my child around testing? Should my child study for NAPLAN? What does MySchool tell me as a parent or carer? Or email your pre-webinar questions.
